Head Gardener

• Permanent Full Time position
• 38 hours per week
• South Eastern suburbs location
• Hourly rate overtime relevant award entitlements including penalty rates superannuation

About the Role

The Head Gardener will provide an array of tasks and responsibilities in both Gardening and Grounds Maintenance, but also Sports Turf management through Horse Racing.

Responsibilities

Experience in a similar role is essential, as your responsibilities will include:

• Sports turf maintenance; various types of mowing, irrigation, treading and track repairs, rail moves, operation of a large range of machinery, pre and post-race day tasks, and any other reasonable horticultural and facility maintenance related tasks;
• Garden services including pruning, weeding, leaf and rubbish removal;
• Identification and treatment of weeds, pests and diseases in both plants and turf;
• Mixing, decanting and spraying chemicals including pesticides, herbicides and fuel;
• Use of a range of horticultural equipment including a blower, hedger, whipper snipper, push mower and ride-mower etc.; and
• Undertake daily pre-start checks as required.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Cert III in Horticulture / Parks and Gardens or Sports Turf;
• Strong horticultural background in lawn and gardening maintenance;
• A manual driver's licence is preferred;
• Chemical Users licence (ACUP) is preferred; and
• Knowledge of irrigation systems is preferred.
