General Statement of Job:
Under occasional supervision, performs various professional governmental accounting duties related to the GREEN
Charter Schools’ financial activities; supervises and reviews the work of assigned technical accounting staff, and performs
related work as assigned. Reports to the Director of Finance.
Job Functions:
• Performs professional governmental accounting work in the preparation and maintenance of accurate financial
transactions and records for the Schools.
• Supervises duties of assigned technical accounting staff; supervisory duties include instructing, planning,
assigning, reviewing work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities. Reviews the work of other
employees for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers
additional training, advice and assistance as needed.
• Reviews and participates in the accounts payable process
Processes accounts receivable; prepares monies for deposit; voids and posts checks as needed.
• Serves as the Primary Contact for the School Office Managers addressing questions and providing
guidance/training as needed. Plans and organizes monthly meetings with School Offices Managers with
Finance Staff.
• Review all procurement card coding and synch into general ledger system.
• Processes all returned checks (insufficient funds) for the Schools. Work with School Office Managers on
following proper procedures for notifying all parties and collecting as possible.
• Plans, schedules and conducts training for school employees in proper governmental accounting procedures;
reviews and updates procedures manual as necessary.
• Performs various accounting calculations and reports findings for report preparation and/or decision-making
purposes.
• Assists in ensuring that all expenditures are made in compliance with established policies and procedures;
monitors and reviews purchase orders for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly grant reimbursements claims for assigned federal, state and local programs.
• Assists all School employees in managing allocated funds; monitors budgets and budget balances and assists in
ensuring schools’ and departments’ adherence to budgets.
• Manages and reconciles assigned special accounts to include but is not limited to ESSER and other federal
funds; completes budget transfers and journal entries as necessary; researches and resolves accounting
discrepancies.
Administers and/or coordinates the administration of assigned grant programs, ensuring the accurate and
timely preparation, analysis and maintenance of related financial records and reports.
• Reconciles due to/do from school locations and allocates central office expenditures.
• Audits and reviews assigned accounts for compliance and internal control; researches and resolves
discrepancies; reports accounting weaknesses and major findings to appropriate personnel.
• Reviews, prepares and/or inputs budget information, budget transfers, journal entries and other financial data
into an automated financial system.
• Compiles data for financial comparisons, analysis and forecasting
• Prepares financial statements, schedules, ledgers, various routine and special reports, spreadsheets and related
work papers for the School Board, State Department of Education, external auditors, and for School use. Assists
staff in researching and ensuring compliance with various guidelines, standards, laws and regulations related to
governmental financial accounting and reporting.
• Assists with special division projects as assigned.
• Completes year-end close-out procedures on assigned accounts.
• Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints in areas of responsibility.
• Operates a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, copier, calculator, telephone, paper shredder,
etc.; uses clerical, copier, computer supplies.
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor,
subordinates, school administrators and staff, South Carolina Public Charter School District personnel, financial
institutions, granting institutions, vendors / service providers, auditors, and the general public.
• Attends training, seminars, conferences, etc., as required to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
• Performs routine clerical tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence,
copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving
computer data, etc.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Training and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting supplemented by at least three years of professional governmental
accounting experience or four years of public or non-profit professional accounting experience, or an equivalent
combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Master’s
degree is preferred.
Salary : $45,000 - $65,000
