Qualifications: The Early Childhood Specialist/Home Interventionists will meet state of Iowa requirements for current teacher licensure to work with young children with disabilities from birth through age 6 year
Minimum of Bachelor Degree required
Must have one of the following endorsements with BOEE:
PK-K Early Childhood SPecial Education - 223
PK-3 Teacher, Regular Education/Special Education - 100
PK-K Early Childhood Special Education - 262
The Early Childhood Home Interventionist provides caregiver coaching support through family-guided routines-based intervention for children who qualify for Part C IDEA early intervention services due to a disability or a condition that might lead to a disability. This role involves evaluating children for eligibility, assessing their progress regularly, developing and implementing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and supporting families as their children transition out of early intervention services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Eligibility Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive developmental evaluations to determine eligibility for Part C early intervention services.
- Utilize standardized assessment tools, observations, input from caregivers and other professionals and review of relevant data as a part of eligibility decisions
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
- Perform ongoing assessments to monitor the child's development and progress within their natural environment.
- Use observational data and caregiver reports to inform assessments.
- Utilize the ACHIEVE system to enter progress notes and data, as required by the State
- Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) Development:
- Collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized IFSPs tailored to the child’s and family’s unique needs.
- Create family-centered outcomes that describe changes and benefits a family wants to see for their child, monitor outcome progress
- Conduct routine IFSP meetings, as required by law
- Caregiver Coaching and Support:
- Provide family-guided routines-based interventions to support caregivers in embedding learning opportunities into daily routines.
- Offer practical strategies and coaching to caregivers to enhance their capacity to support their child's development.
- Intervention Implementation:
- Deliver direct services to children and families in their homes or community settings.
- Adapt interventions based on ongoing assessment and family feedback.
- Family Support and Empowerment:
- Support families in understanding their child’s development and how to advocate for their needs.
- Connect families with community resources and support networks.
- Transition Planning:
- Assist families in preparing for their child’s transition out of early intervention services, whether into preschool special education services or other community programs.
- Facilitate transition meetings and ensure a smooth handover of services.
- Work closely with special education staff when children are potentially transitioning into special education services
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, assessments, progress notes, family visits and IFSPs in compliance with IDEA Part C regulations.
- Ensure all services and interventions are delivered in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early intervention.
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.
