Teacher, Alternative Programs - Clarinda Correctional Facility

Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Teacher, Alternative Program for our Clarinda Correctional Facility Classroom position. Qualifications: Iowa teaching license with a special education endorsement required. K-12 Instructional Strategist I or II endorsement and secondary classroom experience is preferred.

General Summary: The Classroom at Clarinda Correctional Facility serves students aged 18-21 who have not yet graduated from high school who are eligible for services. The teacher will be responsible for assisting students in the areas of instruction, behavioral, or emotional needs based on each individual student. This position must work independently and with other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people. The Teacher will follow the protocols set by the Department of Corrections. The Teacher is continuously responsible for the safety and well-being of students. The Teacher cannot access mobile or personal electronic devices throughout the school day. The employee will not have access to web based teaching materials throughout their time in the classroom.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• The Classroom at Clarinda Correctional Facility serves students aged 18-21 who have not yet graduated from high school who are eligible for services. The teacher will be responsible for assisting students in the areas of instruction, behavioral, or emotional needs based on each individual student. (Security needs at CCF may limit the options for behavioral interventions.)
• Promote a positive learning climate for students.
• Develop lesson plans and maintain instruction for students on a regular basis to meet their individual needs.
• Facilitate relationships with all entities involved in the student’s education.
• Facilitate development and monitor measurable objectives for individual education plans (IEP).
• Complete training and use, when necessary, Crisis Prevention Techniques Verbal De-escalation only (CPI).
• Communicate regularly with students and all entities involved in the student’s education.
• Collaborate with the student's resident district, agency staff, Department of Corrections and Iowa Workforce Development on the status of instruction for students in the program as they transition in/out of the program.
• Meet core expectations for all certified staff as detailed in Green Hills AEA policies and procedures.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work with students with special needs and to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Respect for the dignity of and sensitivity to special needs students.

This position includes a hiring incentive.

Hiring incentive:

• $500 to be paid after 120 days of employment.
• $1,500 to be paid at the end of the first year.
• $1,500 to be paid at the end of the second year.
• $1,500 to be paid at the end of the third year.
