What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Trader position at Green Plains Inc.?
Summary: The Junior Trader will prepare reports and analysis for the trading team, assisting in the physical procurement of corn for Green Plains Biorefineries. The position is responsible for research, analysis, hedging of physical corn, stress testing trading strategies, and tracking profit and loss estimate surrounding our corn origination strategy. In addition, the Junior Trader will assist with all logistics and operations required for successful grain origination.
Responsibilities
- Closely work with the corn origination team and corn procurement Directors to source physical corn for Green Plains Biorefineries
- Perform research, analysis and stress testing on trading and hedging strategies, derivative transactions, including detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis relating to agricultural commodity pricing and supply/demand
- Work with management to maximize profitability by implementing effective risk management strategies and tools with respect to corn origination
- Responsible for daily P L analytics reporting on derivatives portfolio as well as weekly trade reconciliations
- Manage trading positions, inventories, and forward positions to minimize risk and maximize profitability
- Optimize logistics, ensuring biorefineries are continuously supplied with grain
- Prepare required reports and analysis; which includes daily grain positions
- Reconcile positions and calculate monthly portfolio averages
- Set market-to-market valuations, issue and receive all margin calls with counterparties
- Assist in other duties as needed and directed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Business, Finance, or a related field
- Up to four (4) years of related experience preferred
- Ability to work independently with urgency and deadlines
- Good organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing workloads
- Knowledge and experience in execution of futures and options is a plus
- Maintain positive professional relationships, both internal and external
- Demonstrated business acumen and leadership skills
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Must be technically capable of using a personal computer and a range of software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, Power Point)
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
