Position Summary

The Photography Lab Technician will be responsible for developing, coordinating and providing technical support services within the photography program. The lab technician is responsible for supporting darkroom and computer lab instructional programs and activities, including lab set-up, equipment maintenance, and demonstrating photo processes as needed.
This is a permanent classified full-time Instructional Technician II, 40 hrs/week (variable with possible evening and weekend hours) 11-month position.

Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Position Responsibilities

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Clean, maintain and oversee daily operation of computer labs, and darkroom facilities (ability to lift 40 lbs)
  • Maintain studio lighting equipment, photo classroom, and darkroom chemistry and equipment using industry standard safety precautions for handling hazardous materials.
  • Inventory quarter and yearly supplies and materials and order as necessary.
  • Assist and advise students in the lab as needed and demonstrate proper techniques of lab/studio procedures.
  • Train students in specialty aspects of program.
  • Inspect, test and repair all necessary equipment.
  • Manage student camera rental program.
  • Research, design and construct, or recommend for purchase, equipment for lab/studio use as needed.
  • Direct assigned personal.
  • Utilize basic digital and analog photography skills as needed, including a working knowledge of film development, printing technique, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator software, camera controls and scanning.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of college course work with major or emphasis in the area of Photography and experience in Digital and Analog Darkroom/Lab Management.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree in Photography (BFA preferred)
