JOB TITLE: Auditorium Director/Drama Teacher

REPORTS TO: Principal                         

EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS:  Exempt/Salary

 


 

 

POSITION PURPOSE: The Auditorium Director for the high school performing arts facility will open our newly built auditorium in the fall of 2024. The director serves as the touchpoint for all events involving the use of the auditorium. The director oversees full operations and staffing of the auditorium and is responsible for the negotiation of, contracting for, and staging of all activities taking place in the performing arts area. Community relations as well as budgeting, long-range planning, promoting, scheduling and coordinating school and community activities as they relate to the auditorium use are primary areas of focus. Reporting to the principal or designee, the director will also help guide the future and development of the auditorium. This position will also teach classes for a portion of the school day. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Schedule may include up to 2 blocks each day. After school responsibilities include theater productions, Comedy Sportz, sponsorship of International Thespian Society.

  • Provides supervision of students in educational settings.

  • Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.

  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.

  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  • Help coordinate the auditorium usage calendar.

  • Assist any group, approved for usage, with the technical elements that can be provided with the facility (sound, lights, digital screen)

  • Maintain and promote a student tech team that will assist with events that utilize the facility's equipment.  This includes supervision and serving as a liaison between groups using the facility and the student operators.

  • Maintain and organize facility equipment and work with the Facilities Director when repairs are necessary.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the academic success and character development of students.

  • Work closely with the principal, business office, performing arts department and the community.

  • Develops plans, policies/procedures, and controls as related to goals and objectives and strategic planning for the auditorium.

  • Serves as liaison with internal and/or external departments/groups by making calls on the groups.

  • Works with the Business Manager to help develop and administer the auditorium budget.

  • Encourages membership in national, regional, and local organizations providing services to the arts and presenting organizations, and when possible, serves on boards and committees of these organizations.

  • Remains current on new developments in the areas of performing arts center software, hardware, networks, telecommunications, training and maintenance.

  • Collaborates with in-district users and public renters providing for their technical needs for the purpose of supporting program development and facilitating school, district and community performing arts programs.

  • Present at all functions to provide on-the-spot supervision; to assist in providing contract obligations to performers; and, to ensure set-up completion and proper handling of audience.

  • Reports incidents (e.g. accidents, theft, misuse of equipment) for the purpose of maintaining a safe performing arts center environment for students, staff and public.

  • Trains, supervises, and monitors the work of students, assistants for the purpose of providing technical education in a safe environment.

  • Responsible for box office; front-of-house, auditorium, rehearsal and storage areas.

  • Prepares and reviews facility-use and artistic contracts.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State certification/licensure or willingness to get licensed (preferred)

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience in management.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal and public relations skills.

  • Demonstrated communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize events effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to present a positive public image.

  • Must have valid driver’s license

  • Full-time availability for a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • Ability to operate, program, troubleshoot, clean, and maintain equipment for theatrical and live entertainment venues

  • Reliable understanding of theatrical terminology and documentation

  • Ability to construct/assemble various scenery and staging pieces

  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools

  • Audio Experience

    • Live Mixing (Front of House, monitors, and broadcast)

    • Experience setting up and tearing down audio equipment (speakers, microphones, consoles, etc.)

    • Experience with digital and analog audio consoles

  • Lighting Experience

    • Read and implement lighting plots

    • Understand basic lighting principles

    • Experience programming various lighting consoles

  • Rigging Experience

    • Climb ladders, stairs and work in various elevations

    • Experience rigging overhead equipment for theater, television, touring, etc.

  • Video Experience

    • Experience building and operating video system from scratch

    • Experience in multiple areas of video setup and operation (i.e. switching, graphics, editing, etc.)

  • Strong administrative skills and an understanding of the challenges of performing arts management.

  • Demonstrated experience in management of and in operational activities for performing arts, entertainment and rental facilities.

  • Ability to provide strong artistic direction and excellent arts management skills, including negotiating and scheduling.

  • Knowledge of Google Suite.

  • Knowledge of organization and management principles, practices, and techniques as applied to presenting facilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time. 

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. 

  • Ability to carry 25 lbs.

  • Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 

  • Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed material. 

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 

  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation. 

  • Ability to operate office equipment. 

  • Ability to reach in all directions.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • 184-205 contract days

  • Salary: Commensurate with education and experience 

  • Starting Date: 2024-2025 School Year
