JOB OVERVIEW

Take food and beverage orders, retrieve and serve food and beverages to Guest at bar, courteously and efficiently, collect payments, assist in maintenance of bar area, make drinks for Guests.

REPORTS TO

Restaurant Manager and/or Shift Supervisor.

WORK HOURS

Team members will be required to work day and/or evening shifts, both weekdays and weekends, and on holidays.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

1) 1 year experience as a restaurant bartender.

2) Minimum of 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.

3) Ability to satisfactorily communicate verbal and written English with Guests, management and co-workers.

4) Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.

5) Ability to maintain complete knowledge of the following:

a) Bar, seat, and well numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, proper bar set-up and dress code of the restaurant.

b) All beverages, and correct glassware and garnishes.

c) Characteristics and description of every wine/champagne "by the glass" selection and all major wines on the wine list.

d) All menu and daily special items, prices, preparation method/time, major ingredients and quality standards, taste, appearance, texture, serving temperature, garish and method of presentation.

e) State liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.

f) Correct maintenance and use of food/beverage sewing and preparation equipment.

g) Point-of-sale procedures.

h) All drink measurements and recipes.

i) Credit card terminal procedures.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1) High school graduate, some college.

2) Valid California Food Handlers Card.

3) Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service.

4) Any previous bartender schooling.

5) Ability to communicate orally in a second language, preferably Spanish

6) Certification in alcoholic awareness program.

7) Computer training.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

· Ability to understand Guests' service needs.

· Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when providing service to Guests.

· Ability to focus attention to performance of tasks despite frequent stressful, or unusual interruptions.

· Ability to suggestively sell restaurant menu items, beverages and wines.

· Ability to assemble and disassemble bar set-up and glassware to restaurant standards.

· Ability to prepare order forms for Guests' food and beverage orders.

· Ability to converse calmly with Guests, co-workers or supervisors in sometimes tense situations.

· Ability to transport food and beverage to Guests.

· Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.

· Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1) Complete opening duties as assigned, including the following:

a) Check quality and quantity of all bar stock and supplies using checklist.

b) Requisition all necessary supplies and transport to bar.

c) Set bar according to service standards.

d) Set up all condiments (garnishes, juices, etc.) and beverages according to standards.

e) Prepare all fresh fruit garnishes according to service standards.

f) Ensure a sufficient supply of all flatware and glassware for service.

g) Ensure cleanliness and condition of assigned station and service areas.

h) Set up all beverage wells with supplies and equipment.

2) Take Guests' food and beverage orders, utilizing suggestive selling techniques.

3) Record orders of Guests following service procedures.

4) Input order into point of sale system.

5) Legibly document orders when point of sale system is inoperative and distribute orders to appropriate manufacturing stations.

6) Make and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage items at bar and serve to Guests in accordance with restaurant standards.

7) Open wine/champagne bottles and serve in accordance with restaurant standards.

8) Make all varieties of coffee in accordance with restaurant standards.

9) Serve all food and non-alcoholic beverage items to the Guest in accordance with standards.

10) Anticipate Guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all Guests, however busy.

11) Interact in courteous and professional manner with Guests, supervisors and co-workers.

12) Interact with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, particularly in resolving Guest complaints.

13) Follow Manager and supervisor's instructions.

14) Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned station and service areas.

15) Clear Guests’ service areas in accordance with bar procedures.

16) Remove soiled wares from bar as assigned.

17) Present guest checks and process payments.

18) Adhere to payment, cash handling and credit card policies.

19) Clean and wipe down bar immediately after Guest departs.

20) Collect and report tips at the end of the assigned shift.

21) Complete bartender close out per restaurant standards.

22) Complete closing duties, such as:

a) Properly store all reusable goods, liquor and wine.

b) Clean all equipment as assigned.

c) Restock items for next service.

d) Remove all dirty bus pans and all trash.

23) Complete all closing reports as assigned and leave after reporting to supervisor.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS

1) Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.

2) Notify management of any pertinent information related to shift activities.
