Description

Purpose: To organize receiving systems and process designated orders so that the Co-op consistently maintains high product availability and accurate record-keeping. To organize and maintain the back-stock areas and sort/route all products to appropriate places. To provide stocking and organizational support to the retail departments as needed. To create a hospitable environment that welcomes coworkers, customers, owners, and members of the community.

Status: Level III, Lead Staff, Supervised by Store Manager

Responsibilities:

PLANNING

  • Prepare storage areas for incoming deliveries.
  • Prepare product to be brought to and from the backstock areas
  • Meet regularly with Grocery & Merchandising Managers to coordinate purchasing, receiving and storage needs.
  • Ensure that needs of each department are being met by current receiving procedures by maintaining ongoing contact with each retail department managers

PROCESSING ORDERS

  • Check deliveries to verify accuracy, notify purchaser of discrepancies.
  • Train on and operate forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Sorting and routing all products to appropriate places, checking with buyers, assistants, and departments as needed to ensure accuracy.
  • Check for damage and unacceptable quality and notify purchaser of problems.
  • Sign for deliveries with appropriate adjustments noted on invoice.
  • Return product when necessary.
  • Route all invoices according to procedures.
  • Help with unloading as needed.
  • Audit warehouse inventory monthly or as directed by Supervisor.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
  • Participate in customer service trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Knowledgeable about all products. 
  • Help customers place special orders.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow GreenStar’s safety rules.
  • Particular attention to safety surrounding pallet jack, cardboard bailer, fork lift, and traffic.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs. 
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions. 
  • Participate in safety training programs. 
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES

  • Attend Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Effective interpersonal communication with team members, vendors, and delivery drivers.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds continuously.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize.
  • Train and operate a forklift and pallet jack.
  • Able to work in inclement weather.
  • Experience with maintaining databases such as Excel a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
  • Open to input/feedback on work performance.
  • Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift.
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about natural foods, local vendors, local farms.
