Overview

This Power Electronics Engineer would play a key role on our engineering team developing the company’s power electronics solutions and operate with a small non-hierarchical team of engineers. The successful candidate must be an experienced fast learner, leveraging related professional experience and education in electronics theories and methods to deliver diverse grid connected hardware solutions for single-phase and multi-phase power converter platforms. The individual must be a highly motivated self-starter and team player with strong ethics, committed to delivering industrial product quality and performance. There are also leadership opportunities for candidates who area ready to go to the next levels in project leadership and team leadership. Responsibilities

Essential Experience and Knowledge:

• 5 years of experience in sub system architecture and design for high power/voltage product development for grid connected power electronics solutions using Digital Signal Processors (DSP) and microcontrollers.• System and sub-system trade-offs supporting strong build/buy decisions.• Developing and writing of Design Specifications (module functional specification).• Working knowledge of buck/boost, multi-phase/interleaved, DAB, LLC, and H-bridge topologies.• Strong understanding of driver design to control high power switching devices, including Silicon FETs, GaN FETs and especially SiC FETs.• Mixed signal hands-on PCB design (digital/analog/power) and EMC mitigation in high noise environments.• Understanding of high-power component and sub-system cooling strategies.• Exposure to assessing and implementing HV Insulation/Isolation requirements on a PCBA and electromechanical sub-assembly.• Design verification for function and performance with hands-on testing and early simulation.• Experienced in prototype building and testing, both in ho.use and using contract manufacturers.• Good documentation and organizational skills• Close liaison with Mechanical & Software Development throughout the development process.Desired experience for the ideal candidate.• Familiarity with Design for Manufacture & Test (DFM/DFT), Quality, and Reliability concepts.• Designing PC boards for high-voltage and high-power applications, including safety isolation, gate drives, current sensors, magnetic components, and isolated communications.• Exposure to environmentally hardened Industrial rated product development.• Familiarity with electrical distribution grid, AC power distribution and power quality concepts.• Specification and design of 50/60 Hz and high-frequency inductors and transformers.• Development of DSP software for power electronics control, protection, and communication.

 

Desired experience for the ideal candidate:

• Familiarity with Design for Manufacture & Test (DFM/DFT), Quality, and Reliability concepts.• Designing PC boards for high-voltage and high-power applications, including safety isolation, gate drives, current sensors, magnetic components, and isolated communications.• Exposure to environmentally hardened Industrial rated product development.• Familiarity with electrical distribution grid, AC power distribution and power quality concepts.• Specification and design of 50/60 Hz and high-frequency inductors and transformers.• Development of DSP software for power electronics control, protection, and communication.

Qualifications

MSEE with a strong Power Electronics focus and  5 years of working experience in a related field.
