Job Description
The Senior HV Project Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing high-voltage projects, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to time and budget constraints. They will provide technical expertise, coordinate project teams, and liaise with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of high-voltage projects, as well as strong leadership and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets for HV engineering projects, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Coordinate and collaborate with clients, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver successful HV projects.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Prepare regular project status reports and present updates to stakeholders.
HV Engineering Design
- Design and develop HV electrical systems, substations, and power distribution networks in accordance with industry standards, regulations, and client requirements.
- Perform detailed calculations and simulations to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of HV systems.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for HV equipment procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Review and approve contractor designs, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
Commissioning and Maintenance
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of HV systems, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and project specifications.
- Develop and implement maintenance plans and schedules for HV equipment and systems.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues, recommending corrective actions and solutions to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise and support to develop their skills and knowledge.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions for clients.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and collaboration within the team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; a Master's degree or higher is preferred.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license, with the ability to obtain one in multiple states.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in high voltage power systems engineering and design, with a focus on substations, transmission lines, and other electrical infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience in project management, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations related to high-voltage systems.
- Proficiency in power system analysis and simulation software, such as PSCAD, PSS/E, ETAP, or SKM.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel as needed to support project activities.
