Overview
TITLE: LAND MANAGER
LOCATION: BAKERSFIELD, CA
COMPENSATION: $100,000 - $170,000 / YEAR
PURPOSE:
Manage all aspects of Grimmway’s land base including land leases, key water infrastructure, regulatory permits, and compliance, and maintaining records in the company database.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Negotiate leases directly with potential landlords based on current market conditions.
- Maintain working land files, collecting all physical data related to the property.
- Keep and maintain all water district forms and update as required.
- Evaluate company land resources and the infrastructure required to supply water to all lands and oversee the integration of company land parcels and water-related assets into company databases.
- Ensure all irrigation wells are permitted and operational.
- Maintain compliance with current and future water supply and water quality regulations.
- Maintain compliance with the irrigated lands regulatory program as well as air district regulations, including registration of diesel engines, dust plans, and burn permits.
- Assist in land acquisitions by providing critical information including analysis of soil type, surrounding area, water quality and quantity, and improvements needed.
- Perform background work to assist in certifying organic land.
- Supervise land assistant by coordinating projects, reviewing key filings, including irrigated lands program compliance, and approval of accounts payable related to energy and water billings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day. Ability to move about inside the office, in food processing facilities, and in the farming fields. Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to visually inspect equipment and product. Must wear corrective lenses if required/listed on driver’s license.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in either Agriculture, Business, Environmental Sciences and/or an Engineering discipline with greater than five years’ experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of principles, methods, and best practices of proper receiving, recording, documentation, and distribution of all land agreements and land contracts.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Other critical competencies required: strategic thinking, sound judgement, strong collaboration skills, proven negotiation skills, problem solving/analysis, strong leadership ability, personal effectiveness/credibility and high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment required.
- Must be comfortable interacting with both company leaders in the Farming, Sales, Accounting and Legal departments, and with external government regulatory agencies.
- Occasional travel will be required both locally and out of area depending on business need.
- Remote work not available for this position.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean DMV driving record.
- Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen.
