About the Role:
The Corporate Counsel handles a wide variety of legal matters for Grocery Outlet and provides general legal support for departments throughout the company. This position will report to the SVP, General Counsel.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist company attorneys to build, scale, and drive enterprise-wide legal strategies and initiatives to identify and mitigate risk
- Provide legal support to teams throughout the company, including Executive, Purchasing, Operations, Business Technology, Finance, Marketing, HR, Supply Chain, and Real Estate
- Advise on legal issues relating to Grocery Outlet’s unique business model, including independent operators and the Operator Agreement
- Manage claims and litigation, including issuing tender letters, working with claims administrators, ensuring insurance coverage, supervising outside counsel, tracking litigation matter status, responding to subpoenas and discovery requests, formulating and executing litigation strategy
- Assist with regulatory compliance matters, including reviewing and advising on current practices and programs and establishing new policies, procedures, processes and systems
- With company attorneys and outside counsel, advise on employment-related matters
- Negotiate and review contracts with varying complexity, including master and professional services agreements, SaaS and other license agreements, NDAs, outsourcing agreements, advertising and marketing agreements
- Assist with compliance and develop strategy with respect to data privacy requirements, including CCPA
- Work with company attorneys and outside counsel on management of the company’s trademark portfolio and intellectual property matters
- Support with corporate transactional matters (M&A, financings, etc.) as necessary
- Research, analyze, and keep current on emerging legal issues, legislation and regulations affecting the company’s business operations
- Collaborate with other teams as needed to develop training, processes, policies and procedures
- Work with other members of the legal team to drive progress on cross-functional projects while looking for opportunities improve processes to help the company scale
About The Pay:
- Base Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000 Annually

About You:
- Juris Doctor and membership in good standing with the California State Bar
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in either a top law firm or relevant in-house position
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently
- Strong organization and project-management skills
- Business-minded savvy and results-focused
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and drive challenging matters to completion
- Ability to quickly adapt and learn new areas that might fall outside his/her scope of experience
- Strong desire to learn and gain exposure to other legal and business areas
Salary : $140,000 - $170,000
