This role is potentially a hybrid – a mix of office and remote. The selected candidate will be integrated into our team working from Blacksburg VA and will start as a part time position (min 20 hrs/wk average).

Position Description

We are seeking a mid-level professional with approximately 5 years of experience and a wide range of knowledge and practice in regulatory reporting, permit compliance, statistics, groundwater and soil sampling. This position primarily involves technical evaluation and office related work, but may occasionally provide field work opportunities.

Preferred candidates will have experience leading data evaluations, and in technical writing and editing. Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to work independently in a fast paced (at times) environment. Should be able to clearly and concisely communicate with clients.

The selected candidate will report to the Blacksburg VA office, and may also coordinate work assigned to junior staff (including by remote at other locations) at times.

Preferred Experience And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, GIS, Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology or related field.
  • Must be a self-directed, problem solver capable of successfully managing priorities and completing deliverables on-time and error free.
  • 5 years or greater experience within the environmental consulting industry. Experience with RCRA programs is a .
  • Must work well teleconferencing with clients and staff at remote offices.
  • Should have experience with Environmental compliance monitoring and following permit requirements.
  • Should be knowledgeable of statistics and application of methods such as: Mann-Kendall, Kruskal-Wallis, Non Parametric Interval Tests, Parametric Interval Tests, Poisson Prediction Limit Tests, The Shapiro-Wilk Test for Normality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe. Experience with database management (i.e. Microsoft Access).
  • Must be proficient at technical writing for daily communication, reporting and development of workplans.
  • Understanding of hydrogeological principals and processes of groundwater flow and transport.
  • Basic understanding of LNAPL conditions and groundwater chemistry.
  • Familiarity with groundwater and soil sample processing from lab reports and field notes..
  • Familiarity with software such as MODFLOW, GMS and/or Groundwater Vistas, and ProUCL.
  • Understanding of coordinate systems, CAD and GIS, the use of statistically based contouring software (i.e. Surfer).
  • Considers health and safety (H&S) a core value in their everyday professional and personal life.

Key Responsibilities And Duties

  • Works in the development of project specific data management, analysis, and reporting needs.
  • Work with Laboratory and field crew to coordinate soil and groundwater samples.
  • Works with environmental data management system(s) for storage and retrieval of field and lab data.
  • Works to review and evaluate laboratory results with regards to sampling program.
  • Communicate with client and team about scheduling and results of sampling events.
  • Establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
  • Must be resourceful with excellent communication and writing skills and possess a high degree of initiative and time management skills.
