What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audience Development Strategist position at Group Nine Media?

Seeker is looking for an experienced, digital-savvy Audience Development Strategist to help strengthen our online voice, as well as broaden our audience reach, engagement and growth. 

The Audience Development Strategist will be responsible for core areas of focus that includes community management, audience building, week over week analytics & insights, content marketing, and packaging, with close alignment with central teams on revenue and paid media.  You will be the first point of contact for online fans and followers, thus developing an intimate relationship with the online community. To be successful in this role, you will need to have a deep passion for social media, stay abreast of new developments and opportunities in the industry, and be a strategic thinker. In-person networking will be a component of the job, so a passion for connecting and building relationships with new people is crucial.

A typical week includes: 

  • Community Management & Audience Building: Oversee community management across all social platforms, including monitoring and responding to comments and audience feedback in a timely manner, and coordinating community engagement with production teams and/or talent where appropriate (30%)
  • Content Insights & Analytics: Track and measure weekly content performance against viewership and engagement goals, reporting actionable insights to Seeker’s content team; Develop a data-driven understanding of categories, formats, and creative tactics that make content successful; partner with Seeker leadership team to leverage data-driven insights to inform content development and programming strategies (30%)
  • Publishing, Packaging, Distribution: Manage Seeker’s Publisher and oversee related functions, including optimizing SEO packaging of content, including social copy, tags, titles, and thumbnails, across platforms to broaden audience reach; developing relevant industry relationships to extend Seeker content reach; partnering with G9’s central insights team to prioritize and implement projects to optimize the performance of Seeker’s content across platforms (20%)
  • Content Marketing & Promotion: Set and implement social media and communication campaigns to align with marketing and/or promotional strategies; this includes researching new audience markets to target, coordinating with G9 comms for PR opportunities, as well as building relationships with external partners to broaden audience reach; Coordinate with Marketing, PR and Communications teams to ensure brand consistency (10%)
  • Revenue Reporting & Optimization: Close alignment with central insights team to report on distributed revenue, revenue optimization and Seeker’s paid media strategy (10%)

Success will look like:

  • Broaden Seeker’s reach, awareness, recognition, connection and favorability among audiences
  • Surpass benchmarks across platforms, franchises and campaigns
  • Deliver data-driven, creative and insightful solutions to Editorial across various platforms
  • Maintain open communication between Publishing, Editorial, and Insights to help Seeker achieve performance goals 
  • Establish new partners, events and strategies to push Seeker’s content to new audiences

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Track record of being a successful community manager and audience strategist
  • Proven ability to translate data and metrics into actionable creative recommendations; Equally capable of creative and analytical thinking
  • Knowledge of how content variables, target audiences, and distribution methods all affect content performance, and an ability to create recommendations that balance and optimize the three in parallel
  • Experience growing and building audiences across social platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and Snapchat
  • Nimble and flexible to experiment 
  • Experience with Data Analytics tools; Ability to identify and track relevant performance and community metrics 
  • Knowledge of content discovery mechanisms (algorithms) and optimization levers within a digital media platform
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple areas of priority 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills & ability to communicate effectively across social media platforms
