About the role:

The Sr. Mechanical Process Engineer – Powder Processing is responsible to support the commissioning, operations, and troubleshooting of new battery materials’ processing equipment, specifically powder processing equipment.  This role will primarily work with powder milling, sieving, and screening equipment, but may also work with pneumatic and mechanical conveyance systems.

What you’ll be doing:

• Carry out process development studies towards scale up and commercialization of materials.
• Assist in designing, constructing, and commissioning of new process and utility equipment.
• Develop operating procedures and develop understanding of operating windows to determine and control powder properties.
• Work with the R&D team in developing solutions to problems and improving production throughput, costs, product quality and process safety.
• Collect and evaluate data in order to understand process conditions and awareness for scale up to manufacturing scale operations.
• Collaborate with the Operations teams in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement as well as development of standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with maintenance/facilities personnel to improve equipment.

What we’re looking for:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering degree with relevant experience.
• MINIMUM 5 years of powder processing experience (milling & handling).
• Experience in a manufacturing environment with either process or project engineering.
• Experience with pneumatic handling equipment including dust collectors, cyclones, and other pneumatic conveyance equipment

Other qualities we’d love for you to have:

• Prior experience at a start-up company.
• Understands operation of various powder processing unit operations including milling technologies, screening/sieving, classifiers, and dust collectors.
• Powder characterization techniques including: particle size distribution, surface area, and pore volume
