How You’ll Make An Impact:
As Deputy General Counsel / Commercial, you will join our whip-smart team of in-house lawyers to lead the legal/commercial function with a focus on merchant partner contracting/success, expansion into new business verticals, and product development across the company. You will report to Grubhub’s General Counsel and will manage a team of lawyers who are responsible for:
- Complex services agreements supporting multiple Grubhub businesses (plus: renegotiation, partner onboarding, partnership success)
- Procurement and vendor management / compliance
- Product development / counseling
- Technical integrations with merchants and providers
- Sales tax counseling
- Intellectual property
- Corporate entity maintenance / governance
- Real estate
Additionally, you will:
- Collaborate with senior leadership to negotiate high-value partnerships
- Exercise excellent judgment to resolve all manner of emergent issue, including compliance with new/evolving regulations
- Advise on product roadmap/planning priorities
- Judiciously engage and supervise outside counsel, as necessary
- Approach all matters with a creative yet pragmatic mindset—all the while ensuring that the business’ needs are timely met.
What You Bring To The Table:
- JD degree; admitted and in good standing in one of the following state bars: Illinois, New York, or Massachusetts
- 10-14 years practicing law, including at least 3 years in-house in a people management role, with a focus on complex commercial transactions, negotiation, and tech/product counseling.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Manage attorneys across multiple office locations, supporting the growth and development of each member
- Balance competing matters in a fast-paced environment—while finely calibrating/mitigating risk
- Learn quickly and take on challenging projects
- Negotiate a wide range of agreements
Where You’ll Work:
Chicago, NYC or Boston office. All Grubhub offices operate on a hybrid schedule (2-3x a week in office).

NY Salary Range: $229k-343k
The Base Pay component of our Total Rewards package is based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: job responsibilities, location, experience and, education/certifications. In addition to the pay component, this role may be eligible for equity and benefits as part of the Total Rewards package. The Total Rewards package will be determined at the time a contingent offer is made.
