As R&D enters a new era of data driven science, we are building a data engineering capability to ensure we have high quality data captured with context and aligned data models, so that the data is useable and reusable for a variety of use cases.
GSK R&D and Digital and Tech’s collective goal is to deliver business impact, including the acceleration of the discovery and development of medicines and vaccines to patients.
GSK Development and Development Digital & Tech are in the final stages of delivering on a multiyear investment aimed at modernizing the clinical development landscape. In order to ensure we maximize the value of the data we generate using these new systems in combination with the data assets we acquire externally, new teams in both the R&D Development and Development Digital & Tech organizations are being established to focus on the governance and design.
The Engineering Director is both a leader and a “T-Shaped” engineer demonstrating both depth and breadth across key engineer competencies e.g. Software Development, Testing, DevOps, Data Science/Analytics, Lifecycle Management, etc. and the ability to successfully collaborate with experts from other subject domains as well as manage a team of engineers to peak performance.
In addition, the role will demonstrate core engineer knowledge/experience of industry technologies, practices and frameworks e.g. Architecting data solutions on Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Data Factory, Denodo, Knowledge Graph Technologies, Machine Learning, Airflow, GIT, OWASP, OAUTH, Azure Devops, Selenium, JUnit/NUnit, SAFe, dimensional modelling, JavaScript, Python, Docker, R, Apache Kafka.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a team of GSK engineers, data modelers, and contingent workers.
Help to develop reference architectures, standards, and best practices as well as provide guidance on these to other engineering teams.
The continuous delivery of technology solutions from product roadmaps adopting agile and DevOps principles.
Ensures that technical delivery is fully compliant with GSK Security, Quality and Regulatory standards.
Ensures use of relevant R&D Tech / central services and collaborating with service partners in identification and delivery of service improvements.
Supports Product Owner and product team to deliver value continuously, fostering and maintaining close links with customers, related Solution groups e.g. Established Products and Core Tech.
Keeps relevant technical documentation up to date in support of the lifecycle plan for audits/reviews.
Pro-actively engages in experimentation and innovation to drive relentless to our data and analytics strategies.
Provides technical direction and GSK expertise to product teams composed of GSK FTEs, strategic partners and software vendors.
Contributes to release planning working closely with the Product Owner.
Why You?
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, software development, architecture design (e.g. SOA)
Experience using Agile, DevOps & Automation [of testing, build, deployment, CI/CD, etc.]
Experienced in Data science (e.g. AI/ML), data analytics & data quality/integrity, testing strategies & frameworks
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with relevant technology platforms [e.g. Kubernetes] and frameworks [e.g. Docker] including cloud technologies
Experience with data structures (i.e. information management), data models or relational database design
Trained on Regulatory (GxP) standards
Experience in clinical or R&D
