The Role
The Payroll Tax Specialist has a significant role in keeping the customer on-time with tax payments and filings to ensure that their payroll tax needs are met. The Tax Specialist utilizes leading edge processing platforms for payroll, tax, and HR solutions for our clients. The key elements of this role include oversight of quarterly and annual federal tax compliance and preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage tax software and implement new features and updates
- File Federal, State and local taxes with the appropriate tax authority based on the customer’s filing requirements
- Calculate all appropriate adjustments, deductions and credits working with customers
- Maintain current tax rate or frequency for clients to ensure accurate filing and payment
- Calculate form preparation fees according to return complexity and processing time required
- Respond to related tax correspondence and research issues as they arise
- Maintain tax filing spreadsheets detailing returns to be used, dates to be completed and special customer considerations
- Assist customers in registering their business with applicable tax agencies
- Register with state reporting agencies as we add customers to new states for payroll processing
- Check data input and verify totals on forms prepared to ensure correct tax form completion
Additional Functions
- Resolve customer concerns relating to tax, systems issues, and support resulting from our payroll processes
- Provide customer feedback on tax issues as needed
- Remain current with software changes, trends in the payroll industry, and changes in wage and tax law
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
- 3-5 years of tax specific experience required
- Robust communication and writing skills to interact with various departments and outside reporting jurisdictions
- Desire to be a strategic partner with both internal and external stakeholders
- Knowledge of computer systems including Microsoft Office products
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Analytical mindset with the ability to dig into details and draw insights from data to assist customers
- Ability to work in an autonomous environment where you can be a self-directed, independent worker
- Ability to create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels a sense of belonging by empowering all our employees to speak up, ask questions, and be seen.

- Complete continuing education based upon current certifications
- Must meet work from home requirements to qualify
