TITLE: Veterinary Technician
REPORTS TO: Head Veterinarian
AVAILABLE: ASAP
HOURS: Full Time (40 hours/ week)
SALARY: Based on experience
Gulf World Marine Park is a located in Panama City Beach, Florida. The marine park is home to a variety of animal species including bottlenose dolphins, California sea lions, harbor seals, penguins, tropical birds, and stingrays. It is currently home to one of only two collections of rough-toothed dolphins in long-term human care in North America. Gulf World is a member of
The Dolphin Company, which has over 30 marine parks in North and South America and Europe.
SUMMARY:
The veterinary technician is responsible for assisting with the daily health management of the animals at Gulf World Marine
Park (GWMP) under the direction of the veterinarian. He/she may be requested to spend time at other Dolphin Company facilities including, but not limited to Dolphin Connection in Duck Key, FL and Marineland in St. Augustine, FL.
The veterinary technician will also assist with the intake and care of cetaceans and sea turtles at Gulf World Marine Institute, a
501c3 non-profit rehabilitation center located adjacent to GWMP.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Collect, process, and analyze biological samples for any and all animals as directed by the veterinarian.

2. Dispense and/or administer medications under the direction of the veterinarian.

3. Maintain veterinary equipment in working order including conducting or scheduling routine maintenance as needed.

4. Maintain inventory and order supplies and medications.

5. Maintain medical records for individual animals.

6. Communicate regularly with staff at GWMP, GWMI and other parks as necessary via personal communication, phone conversations, What’s App and email.

7. Submit daily medical updates via email.

8. Submit monthly inventory reports via email.

9. Possess a valid passport.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or veterinary technician including experience with blood collection and processing, administration of medications, and calculation of drug dosages, as well as knowledge of general imaging procedures.
  • Minimum of one year experience with aquatic animals preferred.
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, public speaking, and computer skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Availability to work weekends, some holidays, and occasional early mornings or late-night hours required.
  • Availability to travel locally and internationally for potential days to weeks to obtain training or assist with care at other Dolphin Company facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands/work environment listed are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Routinely work is performed within a typical office or hospital setting or outside, exposed to variations in the weather. Occasionally work may be performed in confined, cramped quarters, on a marine vessel or in extreme cold or extreme heat. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend/stoop, crawl/kneel, climb/balance, carry, reach, push/pull, and lift up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 100 lbs or more). Employee is required to apply advanced manual dexterity that requires extreme accuracy such as those used to repair complex equipment or electronic instruments, performing microscopic examinations, administering injections, conducting complex laboratory tests, etc. Employee must have good vision to read documents for general understanding and for analytical purposes. The employee will be required to review non-written materials for general observation purposes, analytical, and detailed purposes. It is necessary for the employee to differentiate between colors.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $17.00 per hour
