What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Safety Manager position at Gypsum Management & Supply, Inc.?
The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Company’s safety and compliance programs in a defined geographic area. This includes monitoring programs, conducting training sessions, promoting policies and processes for safety along with adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines including but not limited to OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, and EPA.
Job Duties/Key Accountabilities
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with local managers and employees
- Help identify physical, behavioral, and cultural exposures that could lead to loss
- Promote safe and healthy working conditions
- Help develop a culture to support company safety objectives
- Coordinate and conduct investigations of accidents, injuries, and property losses.
- Perform root cause analyses to drive process improvement
- Identify sources for safety related equipment and training materials
- Participate in weekly safety meetings and training sessions
- Perform driver observations to identify and document unsafe driver behaviors
- Routinely visit job sites for the purpose of identifying and documenting hazards
- Identify and oversee training needs through previous losses, employee concerns, industry mishaps, and near misses
- Participate in safety recognition program events
- Conduct due diligence for new acquisitions
- Report business interruption due to environmental, or social disruption
- Coordinate and perform new acquisition onboarding to establish Company safety culture
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards
- Assist in the development of grass roots policies and programs
- Perform and/or oversee annual internal risk assessment audit
- Submit yearly personal safety goals and monitor progress against goals via monthly reports, proper scheduling, and time management skills
- Complete and deliver monthly regional KPI’s to respective geographic leadership
- Maintain Driver Scorecard information
- Be familiar with current and historical trends relating to incident case rates, loss workday case rates, and automobile accident rates
- Assist in claims management by investigating accidents and overseeing root cause analyses, utilizing pertinent information to prevent future losses
- Take part in and support recognition events for yards and individuals demonstrating exemplary safety performance
- Understand and assist with DOT and Company drug testing policy and protocols
- Assist subsidiaries with the creation and implementation of safety incentive programs
- Provide disciplinary recommendations in situations involving safety infractions
- Collaborates cross-functionally with other departments to reach common goals
- Intimate knowledge OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, EPA, and NFPA
- Keep current on regulation changes and communicate such changes as they affect company operations
- Ensure prompt and appropriate responses to regulatory agency inquiries, citations, and audits
- Assess effectiveness of programs through data collection and analysis
- Partner with other business peers internally and externally to ensure best in class performance
- Maintain industry and career-specific memberships, affiliations, and designations
- Take on additional projects and duties as needed
- Investigate allegations of non-compliance and violations of safety policies
- Assist in supporting subrogation efforts when third party regulatory non-compliance has been identified
- Facilitates impromptu information requests from various departments for information from the field
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent, Degree preferred
- Minimum five years working in an applicable safety discipline with proven results
- Appropriate safety designation (e.g. CSP, ASP, CHSP) a plus
- Construction industry and logistics experience
- Ability to build and foster relationships
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products suite
- Analytically and strategically minded
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to travel 75% and move between office and job site environment
Physical Demands

- Frequently, will move about inside the office and warehouse
