What are the responsibilities and job description for the MWD Maintenance Technician I position at Gyrodata?

Job Function / Purpose

  • Perform repair and preventative maintenance on one down hole Measurement While Drilling(MWD) tool line, either pulser (such as APS), retrievable (such as Tensor) or surface equipment(such as DSSI), under direction of more senior Maintenance Technicians

Essential Duties 

  • Develop specialization in repair and maintenance for one of the following tool lines: pulser (such as APS), retrievable (such as Tensor) or surface equipment (such as DSSI)
  • Follow procedures to receive MWD tools and equipment returning from field operations
  • Locate and follow appropriate checklist for each MWD tool
  • Test, repair and maintain MWD tools according to checklist requirements using various tool, including oscilloscopes, digital micrometers, digital volt and ohm meters, hand tools, vacuum gauges, pressure gauges, feeler gauges and torque wrenches
  • Document all repair and maintenance performed on each MWD tool and complete work orders and checklist; deliver to OASIS Assistant
  • Collect data from each tool according to checklist, including hours down hole, temperature, shock, vibration and external wear and tear
  • Track and document maintenance cycles for each tool, including serial, part and asset number, job number, job hours, and temperature cycles
  • When notified of a tool failure by field personnel, learn how to add relevant photos, descriptions, data, information to SQMS database; open incident report when necessary
  • Disassemble and re-assemble tools
  • Advise Lead MWD Maintenance Technician of any problems with tools or failures to meet specifications
  • Maintain clean and organized work area and attend to miscellaneous shop duties
  • Fill pulsers with oil using proper HSE procedures, including wearing protective goggles, gloves, and safety equipment 
  • Mentor and advise MWD Maintenance Trainees 
  • Perform duties according to on-call schedule
  • Travel to client job sites as necessary 

HSE Function

  • Comply with applicable safety standards and maintain a safe working environment

QA Function

  • Comply with applicable quality assurance standards

Required Qualifications

  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years experience as an MWD Maintenance Trainee or equivalent industry experience v Experience using hand tools
  • Clean driving record 
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Ability to be on call according to weekly rotation schedule and be available to work within 1 hour from call
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to use a computer for accessing and sending e-mail, opening and revising documents, accessing internet and web-based Gyrodata, Inc. systems, including SharePoint, Agresso and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree in mechanical or technical field
  • Oilfield industry experience

Working Conditions

  • The job is performed in a shop or warehouse environment with some exposure to safety hazards, potentially including cold, heat, noise, machinery, electricity and chemicals that may require wearing protective equipment and compliance with specific safety protocols. The job requires physical exertion including sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to sixty (60) pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting and a range of physical motion. The job requires operation of tools, machinery, equipment, computers and telephones. The job requires following written and oral instructions, attention to detail, ability to multitask, ability to work with others and ability to meet deadlines.
