Division info:

Located in Livonia, Michigan, the 120 employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for design, development, manufacturing, assembly and support of landing gear, actuation systems and other aerospace components.

Summary of position:

The Director of Operations will oversee manufacturing operations and is responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for the Operations Department. Additionally, the Director of Operations will be responsible for reviewing current production practices and identifying areas that need improvement. This role will be responsible leading efforts to implement changes and train staff to increase efficiency and reduce expenses.

Main responsibilities:

• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
• Select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees.
• Communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions.
• Implement and manage the principles of SPQRC.
• Management of all manufacturing operations including engineering, machining, grinding, precision assembly, paint, and inspection.
• Manage process improvement projects through the manufacturing engineering team.
• Manage daily production performance and effect change to improve overall output.
• Undertake business process analysis, statistical analysis for improvement projects and to support wider change.
• Excellent people skills while advancing continuous improvement and holding team members accountable.
• Manage new program introduction to the shop floor.
• Implement and support cultural change across the organization and drive business improvement.
• Analyze company processes and procedures to develop steps that enhance overall manufacturing strategies.
• Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.
• Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and
• other service providers.
• Analyze and improve organizational process and workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout; implement changes.
• Stay current and up to date on any technology changes that may affect organizational productivity.
• Responsible for all department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, process management, or engineering.
• A graduate degree in business or MBA would be beneficial.
• Five years' experience in process optimization, operations, or business management.
• Manufacturing experience in a low volume high mix environment.
• Lean certification with practical application required.
• Experience developing employee training programs.
• Proficiency with TQM process evaluation techniques.
• Advanced skills with Microsoft Office and MRP systems.
