Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for the day-to-day production within the shop. This position organizes, supervises, motivates, and supports the production staff daily to provide cost effective operations. Additionally maintains effective communications and coordination between departments, and at all levels of the organization to support efficient operations and ensure employee safety.
Principle Duties and Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain a professional appearance and display respect for others
- Supervise the production team to prioritize jobs and allocate production resources as needed to meet the manufacturing schedule
- Ensure safe and efficient operations, by establishing appropriate safety, manufacturing quality, and throughput expectations, then measuring and reporting against them
- Communicate effectively with the production team along with scheduling, material handling and all support departments to ensure safety, quality, and productivity requirements are being met
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed
- Meet all assigned goals and help others to accomplish their goals
- Ensure a safe work environment for all associates
- Monitor quality and provide feedback to the floor to promote a quality culture
- Utilize daily reports and other KPI’s to monitor and insure production requirements are being attained Organize resources to meet daily production demands
- Schedule, plan, and conduct daily production meetings with department leads to insure schedule adherence
- Oversee staff scheduling, time off requests, and overtime hours
- Assure all departments have the resources and equipment to safely and effectively do their work
- Coordinate with manufacturing engineering to create work instructions and confirm they are used properly
- Coordinate with materials management to ensure efficient flow of materials and parts through the shop
- Coordinate with the quality control team to ensure proper adherence to QC standards and processes
- Communicate product design issues and improvement opportunities to manufacturing engineering
- Determine and implement improvements to the production processes
- Monitor and measure production standards assuring quality and efficiency
- Ensure employee cross training and documentation is realized to maximize flexibility
- Anticipate disruptions in production and have an alternative value-added work plan
- Facilitate weekly production meetings with schedule adherence and updates
- Attend weekly quality control meetings with supporting documentation on QC issues and concerns
- Work with scheduling department to identify over capacity situations and remedy
- Initiate hiring of additional staff when production capacities are exceeded
- Provide a positive, motivating example for other employees
- Conduct formal performance reviews per company policy
- Initiate disciplinary measures according to company policy and dismiss production employees when all other corrective actions have failed
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures
- Adheres to company quality protocols and processes
- Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the H&S handbook
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Skills and Abilities:
- An office will be provided although a substantial portion of this positions time will be spent on the shop floor
- Subject to schedule and priority changes on short notice
- Required to travel from building to building to work with and evaluate different production lines
- 8-10 hour days, and availability during reasonable off time hours
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
