Director of Forensic Architecture

Haag is seeking an Architect registered in Texas, to perform forensic work.  The ideal candidate will be able to lead and help grow this burgeoning practice area within Haag. The architect will be expected to evaluate the cause(s) of defects or failure and options for repair in a variety of construction-related circumstances, including roof and building envelope evaluations, as well as premises liability evaluations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Evaluate the cause and extent of damage stemming from alleged defective construction and/or design 
  • Evaluate the performance of design professionals and contractors relative to the standard of care
  • Evaluate the scope of repair and repair options
  • Work with engineers to prepare repair plans for damaged buildings
  • Evaluate properties for premises liability litigation
  • Effectively communicate opinions in writing and verbally, and sometimes as courtroom testimony
  • Effectively and patiently communicate technical matters to laypersons and attorneys

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered architect in at least one state and will obtain registration in TX within six (6) months
  • Hold a current NCARB Record and Certificate or within six (6) months
  • Must never have been disciplined by a state board or licensing authority
  • Must never have been disqualified as an expert witness
  • Must be able to work independently, efficiently manage your time, and meet deadlines on multiple concurrent projects
  • Must be able to quickly adapt to change to meet business needs
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communications skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients and employees at all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills with attention to detail and high quality of work in a pressure environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills. Public speaking is a must; effective report writing is critical
  • Proven project management, data interpretation, and technical writing skills
  • Supervisory experience desired
  • Ability to travel and support project needs both in and out of state
  • Demonstrated intermediate-level computer skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A registered architect with at least 5 years of experience including forensics/construction defects
  • Bachelor or Graduate degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited university
  • Experienced with the design, detailing, installation, and specification of exterior cladding, window, and/or roof systems
  • Experienced performing field inspections of the above
  • Familiar with the design process and code review in general 
  • Destructive testing experience
  • Testifying experience (deposition, arbitration, or trial) preferred

  • Registered Architect, required

  • Must be willing and able to perform all types of field inspections (exterior, interior, and roofs) and to work at heights or in confined spaces (attics and/or crawlspaces)

  • Must be willing and able to travel by car or air; occasional overnight travel should be expected
