Position Overview:
The Volunteer Coordinator focuses on volunteer program administration, engagement, and outreach for one of three local Habitat for Humanity ReStores. This individual works in tandem with both the Store Manager and the Volunteer Programs Team to ensure successful implementation of the volunteer program and programmatic goals at the store. The Store Manager provides day-to-day supervision and support; the Volunteer Programs Team provides programmatic instruction and staff development.
The Volunteer Coordinator empowers staff and volunteers to work diligently toward the goals and mission of Habitat for Humanity Portland Region by providing an excellent experience for our volunteers. The ideal candidate has a positive disposition and flexible attitude, is a team player and master problem-solver, and thrives on social interaction.
Responsibilities:
Volunteer Administration – 50%
  • Manage volunteer profiles and review volunteer applications in Get Connected.
  • Coordinate and participate in volunteer outreach efforts, including neighborhood networking and tabling events as needed.
  • Audit volunteer hours, coordinate onboarding, and maintain accurate database.
  • Manage in-store volunteer recognition budget, under the supervision of the Store Manager.
  • Solicit volunteer content for Volunteer Program Team to be included in monthly newsletters (both affiliate and ReStore prepare volunteer spotlights for social media.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of volunteer supplies and incentives.
  • Facilitate in-store staff training on volunteer best practices and using the Get Connected platform.
Volunteer Engagement within Store – 50%
  • Focus on volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and involvement in the mission and goals of the ReStores.
  • Manage daily volunteer schedule to ensure appropriate staffing.
  • Engage, lead, and work alongside individual volunteers and volunteer groups.
  • Evaluate and coach volunteers’ performance, providing constructive feedback and ensuring volunteer satisfaction.
  • In partnership with store management, coordinate volunteer appreciation and recognition events and incentives.
Store Support – as needed
  • Under the direction of the Store Manager, support store staff when needed (opening or closing the store, covering breaks, back-up cashier, etc.)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Experience in volunteer coordination or management.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in group facilitation while creating positive and inclusive environment for diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete projects with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to work collaboratively with staff.
  • Ability to lead with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture and values of Habitat for Humanity Portland Region.
  • Ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the volunteer perspective and best practices in volunteer administration.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
  • Any qualifying combination of education, certification, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Experience with Get Connected preferred but not required.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • This job operates in an open, warehouse and retail environment.
  • This position is very active and requires consistent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • This employee must be able to comfortably lift, move, and/or load items over 50 pounds with mechanical assistance and/or a team lift.
  • This position requires occasional local travel, typically to other Habitat locations.
Schedule:
  • Tuesday-Saturday, 40 hours a week
  • Current store operating hours: 10am-6pm Sunday - Saturday
Starting Salary Expectations:
Minimum $20.43/hour to wage range midpoint of $24.90/hour. Placement will generally not exceed the midpoint based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. The full wage range is $20.43/hour to $29.63/hour.
