Job Description
Job Title: Caregiver
Status: Hourly/Non-Exempt
Reports To: Resident Care Director
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for providing personal assistance and routine daily care and services to the residents in order to enhance the residents’ independence and quality of life.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Assist with activities of daily living. Following facility protocol, licensing regulations and guidelines for both resident and employee safety.
2. Provide safe transfers, positioning and turning of clients using effective body mechanics.
3. Assist in culinary service as needed.
4. Respond effectively to resident behavior. Use supportive communication in resident interactions including effective communication skills with residents who have sensory deficits.
5. Maintain a safe environment by keeping the community safe, clean and comfortable; recognize environmental safety hazards, understand the methods to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries.
6. Demonstrate good practice of infection control principles by understanding the infectious process and modes of disease transmission, and by using appropriate hand washing techniques.
7. Provide assistance with elimination needs of residents by: providing care of the incontinent resident; reinforcing bowel and bladder training; assisting residents with toileting, including the use of urinals, commodes and toilet seat extensions.
8. Observe and report resident physical and emotional condition changes, using appropriate terminology.
9. Promote open communications between healthcare professionals, families, residents, and staff.
10. Good attendance.
11. Perform other duties as assigned or needed.

Job Description
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. In order to carry out the responsibilities of this position the individual is required to have a minimum of one year previous care experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and other Special Requirements:
Must have a current Tuberculosis skin test or chest x-ray. Must have current CPR and First Aid certification and up to date Covid Vaccines.. Must pass criminal background check. Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
Essential Skills:
Ability to relate positively and communicate appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other employees. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in
English as a minimum level to be understood by supervisors, co-workers, and residents. Must follow safety guidelines, including proper lifting techniques and universal precautions when providing care to the residents. Possess sufficient computer skills to be able to print documents and enter information into resident records as needed.

Standing, walking, sitting. Reaching with hands and arms. Be able to bend over.
Use hands and fingers. Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Potential injury from transferring, repositioning, or lifting residents. Be able to hear and speak. Exposure to latex possible. Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Subject to injury from falls, burns, odors, or cuts from equipment. Ability to lift: 50 - 100 pounds occasionally. Possible exposure to various drugs, chemical, infectious, or biological hazards. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and infections.
To work if needed to ensure shift coverage, days or evenings or nights. Interaction with co-workers, residents or vendors.
