Under the guidance of the Network Public Relations (PR) Director, the Public Relations Specialist supports the public relations function for Ocean University Medical Center (OUMC) and Southern Ocean Medical Center (SOMC). The position will also work closely with the Region's Public Relations and Marketing Directors to ensure an integrated marketing and communications approach.
This is a hybrid role.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Public Relations Specialist atHackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Under the guidance of the regional and network PR Directors, develops, implements, and manages a public relations strategy to promote the region's academic medical center and community hospitals.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining positive relationships with key local and regional reporters.
- Builds lists of media targets for outreach initiatives and PR campaigns.
- Demonstrates proactive media relations by monitoring news daily, researching appropriate news angles, writing and editing news releases, and pitching news stories to relevant editors.
- Drafts press releases to promote the latest happenings at the hospital, including new physicians, services, innovations, achievements, etc.
- Identifies compelling stories within the hospital and drafts appropriate content for promotion.
- Partners with the network content strategy team on story ideas for HealthU and HMH's social media channels.
- Partners with the network PR team to elevate and amplify site stories, innovations, and physicians/leaders.
- Responds to all media inquiries promptly and is on-call for media inquiries after regular business hours. Provides consultation services to other departments as needed, particularly guidance in managing media inquiries and other articles.
- Manages thought leadership opportunities and plans to promote the hospital president and other hospital executives. Responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining an executive visibility plan for the site president and chief hospital executive (CHE).
- Drafts talking points and speeches for external speaking opportunities.
- Responsible for developing and implementing formal public relations and media plans in concert with organizational marketing goals and strategy.
- Responsible for the production of external communications, including production schedule and mailing. Works with in-house printing department to design and produce appropriate magazines, newsletters, ads, and brochures on deadline.
- Maintain an accurate photo library for use in publications, newspapers, etc.
- Collaborate with regional and network PR teams to produce quarterly media reports, including analytics, media performance over the quarter, and benchmark data against competitors.
- Generates new ideas, challenges the status quo, takes risks, supports change, encourages innovation, and solves problems creatively.
- Sets challenging and productive goals, is accountable for actions, provides leadership and motivation, provides resources and support, uses checkpoints and data to track progress, and sets up systems and processes to measure results.
- Develops realistic public relations plans, sets goals, aligns plans with company goals, plans for and manages resources, creates contingency plans, and coordinates/cooperates with others.
- Operates within the organization's formal and informal structures, builds allies and relationships across departments, uses partners to build consensus and create results, is appropriately diplomatic, understands others' roles and perspectives, and can sell projects and ideas across the organization.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
- A minimum of 2 years experience in Public Relations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
