Position: Retail Cashier
Schedule: Variable - 5 days per week, with 2 days off; 6a-2p; 8a-4p; 11a-7p
Job Summary: The Retail Cashier is responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience by processing transactions efficiently and accurately while maintaining a clean and organized checkout area. This role involves handling money, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting other store functions as needed.
To ensure success you need the ability to follow instructions and operate in an orderly manner. Preferred applicants are hard-working, dependable, focused and have outstanding problem-solving skills.
Key responsibilities and skills typically associated with this role:
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers as they enter and exit the store.
- Provide assistance and answer questions about products, prices, and store policies.
- Resolve customer complaints or refer them to management when necessary.
- Transaction Processing:
- Operate cash registers, scanners, and other electronics to complete sales.
- Process payments, including cash, credit/debit cards, and gift cards.
- Issue receipts, refunds, or change due to customers.
- Sales Support:
- Assist with stocking shelves, organizing displays, and ensuring the store is tidy.
- Help with inventory counts and product placement as directed.
- Promote store sales and special offers to customers.
- Security and Loss Prevention:
- Follow all store procedures regarding cash handling and security.
- Monitor checkout area to deter theft and report suspicious behavior.
- Ensure the accuracy of all transactions and maintain cash drawer integrity.
- Operational Duties:
- Balance cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout area, including removing trash and replenishing supplies.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous cashier or retail experience preferred but not required.
- Basic math skills and ability to handle transactions accurately.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
- Handle cash, operate a register, and perform other tasks.
