Overview: Halifax Health is seeking a Clinical Informaticist for the Medical Informatics Department.
Summary: Under the direction of the Manger, Medical Informatics, this role will serve on the Medical Informatics Team, participating in and contributing to the management and processing of data and information related to the delivery of patient care. The Clinical Informaticist will promote the concept throughout the organization and apply informatics knowledge and principles to assist with analysis and design of processes related to development, implementation and optimization of electronic data systems with major emphasis on the electronic health record. This position serves as a professional liaison to all areas impacted by clinical documentation and data management to help affect the delivery of quality and efficient patient care through the application of improved processes aimed at clinical transformation effectively integrated with available technology.
Job Qualifications:

  • Active license or certification in related clinical field. For example: RN, RT, Medical Technologist, Radiological Technologist, PT, OT or ST
  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years of healthcare experience, including understanding of hospital and ambulatory operations, interdepartmental procedures and interdisciplinary interactions and workflows in the clinical setting

General skills to support EMR’s such as Meditech, Cerner, and Epic.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and assess clinical processes by:
  • Attaining and maintaining knowledge of processes and their interaction with clinical documentation and data management, including, but not limited to ongoing participation in direct patient care within the employee’s licensed discipline on a routine basis

Collaborating with health team members to identify processes for improvement

*
Assessing system effectiveness through identification of inefficient processes resulting in ineffective system design or use

*
Utilizing Halifax Health organizational and IT strategic objectives in conjunction with clinical informatics strategies to assist with project planning and management

*
Translate identified needs and ideas into workable informatics solutions through:

*
Analysis of current processes and identification of future process visions to determine gaps for formulation of plans to meet process needs

*
Assessment of proposed future technology for impact on current processes and determination of process changes required to complement or enhance the technology

*
Communication and collaboration with clinicians and technical support staff

*
Incorporation of optimal processes into system designs

*
Assistance with development of policies and procedures supporting process adoption and implementation

*
Integrated testing of processes and systems to validate design and desired functionality

*
Employ project management skills and techniques to lead clinical process development and/or implementations through:

  • Formulation of project scope

*
Formation and facilitation of work teams

*
Development of project timelines

*
Documentation of team proceedings and decisions

*
Tracking of issues and resolutions

*
Communication of project updates to governing bodies

*
Collection and analysis of data to determine project success or effectiveness

  • Support process and/or system implementations through:

*
Coordination of process and system testing at all levels

*
Assisting in the development of training materials

*
Mentoring and coaching front-end users on processes and system use

*
Providing on-site and on-call support during implementation of a new process or related system functionality

*
Tracking and resolving issues identified during implementation

*
Assisting in other miscellaneous implementation tasks

*
Serve as a Change Agent for the adoption of new processes

*
Actively participate in the Change Management Process adopted for managing design changes and enhancements to the EHR

*
Effectively communicate process changes to clinical staff

*
Function as a resource for process change inquiries from any organizational level

*
Work with assigned Clinical Analysts to incorporate process design and changes into systems

*
Meet Joint Commission requirements in the areas of training, education, and use of M I S Clinical applications.

*
Maintain a high level of security in assigned areas of responsibility, abiding by established HMC Information Security and HIPAA Compliancy policies and procedures

*
Promote and adhere to departmental and organizational information security policies, standards, and procedures.

*
Demonstrate high level of dependability, flexibility and job interest. Participate in HMC-approved educational in-services and remain compliant with required core competency programs and activities related to the Clinical Informatics mission. Keep abreast of current trends, research, best practices, and new developments in healthcare information technology as they relate to specific job responsibilities.

Participate in the Disaster Preparedness initiative as it relates to Clinical Informatics, thereby providing a valuable resource to support daily operations and the HMC emergency preparedness mission.

*
Availability to be on call after hours/weekends.

*
Position requires some travel.

*
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
