What are the responsibilities and job description for the Genetics Counselor position at Hamdan Resources?
We are seeking Genetics Counselors to join our teams across the US.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and analyze detailed family medical histories to assess the risk of inherited conditions
- Educate patients and their families about the nature, inheritance patterns, and implications of genetic disorders
- Interpret and communicate complex genetic test results to patients in a clear and understandable manner
- Provide counseling and support to individuals and families coping with the emotional, psychological, and ethical implications of genetic disorders
- Facilitate informed decision-making regarding genetic testing, reproductive options, and disease management
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, coordinating care and ensuring effective communication
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in genetics, research, and testing technologies
- Participate in research activities and contribute to the advancement of the field of genetic counseling
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and adhere to ethical and legal guidelines
- Pass/possess Public Trust
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program
- Certification from the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC)
- Strong background in genetics, molecular biology, and related fields
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences
- Empathy, emotional intelligence, and the ability to provide compassionate support to patients and families
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and other relevant software applications
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying abreast of advances in the field
- Adherence to ethical principles and standards of practice in genetic counseling
