Military Veteran Program Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Military Veteran Program (MVP) Coordinator performs a wide range of tasks to assist veterans, active duty, and family members in regaining control over their lives and recovery process. The Coordinator will be responsible for the development of the Hamilton Center Military Veteran Program (MVP) including program coordination, program outreach and training. The Coordinator will provide peer support services as a veteran’s advocate, provides veterans information and support in emergency or crises situations, outpatient, or inpatient settings. The Coordinator will be responsible for engaging specific military or veteran community programs in education and referrals regarding Hamilton Center services while expanding the range of services provided to the Veteran community. The Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining a clear pathway of services to Veterans in need of Hamilton Center Services.
  • This document will utilize the term Veteran with full knowledge that services will be extended to Veterans, Active Duty Military Members, and their families.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and modify plans for Veteran treatment.
  • Provide crisis management for veterans ensures appropriate treatment pathway.
  • Follow Center procedures regarding the provision of veteran care and documentation
  • Maintain veteran and program records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, grant requirements etc.
  • Participate in continuing education activities, remaining knowledgeable in area(s) of expertise, and meet requirements for professional staff membership
  • Attend meetings as appropriate and meet regularly with supervisor to exchange pertinent information and receive supervision.
  • Serve as a resource person to Center and community in area(s) of expertise, including presenting classes, speaking engagements and agency consultation.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships and professional stature.
  • Ability to demonstrate competent use of Electronic Medical Record
  • Completion of required CANS and/or ANSA training and ongoing certification
  • Timely completion of HAP paperwork and reassessments within specified deadlines
  • Assist Veterans in articulating reasonable and holistic steps in moving toward recovery goals.
  • Participating in professional networking with community members and agencies with common goals of Veteran assistance.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs activities related to veterans.
  • Assist in the development of the clinical pathway of services.
  • Assesses, monitors and tracks the needs of the current veteran population; recommends new Initiatives according to the identified needs.
  • Maintains up-to-date information on effective services at other institutions and in the community for veterans.
  • Works with veterans to facilitate a successful transition to civilian life, and an effective retention plan.
  • Coordinates assigned activities, promotional efforts and the center’s programs.
  • Provides administrative assistance to immediate supervisors; will occasionally develop, prepare and present recommendations and reports.
  • Mentor and ensure each HCI Office is supported by a SBHP trained therapist.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Peer Recovery Specialist or Community Health Worker Certification or ability to obtain Peer Recovery Specialist Certification
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in community-based mental health care.
  • Knowledge of the natural history of dependence and the relevant biological and sociocultural factors.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the range of treatment needed and appropriate utilization of available treatment resources.
  • Willingness to use reliable personal transportation in work capacity.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Community Health Worker or Peer Recovery Specialist certification in State of Indiana or ability to obtain
  • Maintain CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification
  • Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Valid driver’s license in accordance with motor vehicle policy.
