Hancock County Government is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Probate Clerk (part-time). The Probate clerk assists the Register of Probate in the operation and administration of the probate court. The probate clerk must effectively interact and work with the Deputy Register, Judge of Probate, other Probate court staff, the general public, members of the legal community, private and public agencies and interdepartmental personnel within the county organization.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The Probate Clerk with a variety of administrative tasks, including but not limited to: scheduling, working with public, recordkeeping/filing, and answering the telephone.
· General knowledge of various office technologies
· Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
· Working with confidential information
· Assists in processing appointments of attorneys, guardian's ad litem and visitors.
· Receives applications petitions, complaints, motions, pleadings, appeals and other documents.
· Reviews filings for clarity, completeness and accuracy, assigns master docket numbers to new case, indexes and enters new filings and subsequent filings on the docket.
· Establishes new file folders for new cases.
· Prepares Probate documents.
Minimum qualifications:
· 19 years of age
· Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
· Ability to perform various office tasks (filing, photocopying, scanning and data entry)
· Ability to work independently
· Ability to maintain confidentiality
