EHS Manager

JOB TITLE: Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager tracks laws and regulations that might affect the organization's policies or practices. The manager assists operations management in maintaining compliance with air quality, wastewater, and stormwater permits and issues. The manager will be responsible for a variety of tasks including site Environmental/Health/Safety, Facility Management, and Security. This position will be responsible for the overall site environment and health and safety regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. Responsible for planning and directing department strategy. Conducts organizational reviews to identify strengths and weaknesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Manage the process of developing, training, and implementing programs, policies, and procedures that maintain a safe and environmentally friendly workplace.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards (including OSHA, EPA, etc.)
• Write regulatory submittals, permit applications, permit government citation rebuttals, and other correspondence
• Serve as liaison for communication of EHS matters to the public and information exchange with local agencies
• Lead operation to constantly improve and reduce accident and incident rates across all business segments through the development of proactive programs using leadership techniques and employee involvement
• Advise management of all significant audit findings, adverse events
• Measure sites’ performance, identify deficiencies, develop action plan and correct identified deficiencies
• Be responsible for all administration activities, ensure subcontractors’ employees are follow company rules & regulations
• Maintains a safe and secure environment for employees by establishing and enforcing security policies and procedures; supervising the security workforce.
• Periodically train employees on standard operating procedures and safety protocols
• Advise construction team in designing wastewater treatment facility and hygiene facilities, such as locker room, shower room, dining room, and cleaning equipment
• Supervise wastewater operators to ensure compliance with regulations
• Collaborate with the maintenance team to maintain and ensure the effectiveness of environmental utilities
• Utilize hands on EHS efforts to assist with design, construction, and renovation of plant
• Evaluate occupational exposures to chemicals in the workplace and record keeping
• Monitoring and record-keeping of blood lead levels
• Issue disciplinary actions to employees for PPE (personal protective equipment) and EHS procedure violations 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field required
• Experience working with local regulatory agencies preferred
• Familiar with various emissions control devices to ensure compliance
• 7 to 10 years previous management experience
• Versed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management
• 7 years in the EHS field, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Permit (Industrial Air, Waste Water, etc.) / MPDES (SWPPP, SPCC) experience required

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 
• Required to climb, balance, bend, squat, reach, grasp, and hand dexterity. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

There is little travel expected with this position.
