Location: This member position will be a hybrid position. This member will serve some of their time at our camp location located in Nashville, IN (3049 Happy Hollow Road), and at our Indianapolis location (615 N Alabama St, Suite 134.) During the summer and when user groups are scheduled, this position will reside at the Nashville camp location. When summer or user groups are not in session, this member will work at the Nashville location at least three times a week and from the Indianapolis location a minimum of 1 day per week. There is also the ability to work remotely during the school year, as agreed upon with the supervisor. Individual may also travel occasionally for camper recruitment events, staff recruitment or other business Schedule: Hours and days will vary depending on the time of year. Supervisor: Camp Director
Organization Overview:
Happy Hollow Children's Camp is an overnight camp located on 850-acres in Brown County, Indiana and serves campers ages 7-14. Happy Hollow serves low income and under-resourced youth from the greater Indianapolis area via 8 weeks of nature-based programming. Happy Hollow also serves youth across the state of Indiana that have unique medical needs such as asthma. Since Happy Hollow was founded in 1951, over 40,000 youth have attended our weeklong overnight camp. Camp programming is focused on developing the campers with positive new character traits such as compassion, self-confidence, leadership, personal responsibility, self-esteem, and integrity. The mission of Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc. is to create an outdoor learning experience that inspires Indiana youth to reach their full potential as active, responsible and caring members of the community.
Service Position Summary:
The Happy Hollow AmeriCorps Program Lead position is a twelve-month AmeriCorps position that will provide comprehensive support to the Happy Hollow staff in running a successful 2025 summer camp. This position will support the development of camp curriculum, recruitment of summer AmeriCorps members, training of summer AmeriCorps members and camp outreach.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Promote outdoor education programs via community outreach events and social media; ● Engage in outreach activities for summer AmeriCorps members and camp counselors via recruitment fairs, community events and social media; ● Lead team building and outdoor education activities for user groups; ● Support with Happy Hollow property cleaning and preparation in between user groups; ● Plan and implement Counselor in Training (CIT) curriculum throughout the summer for campers ages 15-16; ● Assist with Happy Hollow special events as need; ● Support Property Director with camp improvements and capital needs; ● Design and implement trainings for incoming Camp Counselors and AmeriCorps members; ● Provide additional support and coaching to summer AmeriCorps members; ● Support Camp Director with camp logistics and communication with parents/guardians; ● Represent Happy Hollow at community events and meetings as needed; ● Other activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
● Experience facilitating nature-based activities in a camp setting ● Experience working with children ● Minimum Age: 18 by September 3, 2024 ● A high school diploma or its equivalent ● Ability to pass federal, state and National Sex Offender background checks ● Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States ● Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds ● A reliable vehicle and driver’s license ● Ability and eagerness to live in residential, camp setting during the summer

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Professionally represent AmeriCorps and Happy Hollow Children’s Camp when serving with youth, community members, and partners ● Maintain a positive and professional leadership role when supporting youth, camp counselors and summer AmeriCorps members ● Ability to create safe spaces and positive community cultures among colleagues and youth ● Incorporate positive youth development principles into everyday service, including behavior management, curriculum development, and risk management ● Willingness to learn, adapt, and accept feedback from staff and peers ● Ability to work well within a team setting ● Uphold Happy Hollow Children’s Camp values and culture through respectful treatment of peers in and out of service space ● Participate in professional development training required by Happy Hollow ● Duties may include transporting youth in some positions
