The Job:

Harbor Care - The Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) which enables Veterans Administration to provide resources toward community-based suicide, seeks a Support Staff Specialist to help further our mission.

About the Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP):

This grant program assists in further implementing a public health approach through community efforts. The goal of this Program is to reduce Veteran suicide risk; improve baseline mental health status, well-being, and social support; and improve financial stability for eligible individuals and their families.


About Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon:

Veteran Parker Gordon Fox joined the Army in 2014. He was a sniper instructor at the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning and was known for his generosity and kindness to others in need. He passed away by suicide in 2020 at the age of 25.


Job Summary:

The Support Staff Specialist has the ability to plan, organize, and control work involving diverse activities; ability to gain cooperation and coordinate the work of others; and skill in oral and written communications.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
  • Veteran status highly required.
  • We will also consider relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience working with military Veterans preferred but not required.
  • Current CPR certification, will provide training if not currently certified.
  • Current driver’s license and vehicle insurance with access to a dependable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Resourcefulness, flexibility and integrity.
  • Experience working in a healthcare organization is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Office management of the SSG Fox SPGP that include responsibility for directing a variety of support services such as typing, mail processing, purchase of supplies and equipment, etc.
  • Administrative work that require monitoring and coordinating administrative and processing work of subordinate elements through a system of internal procedures, controls, production, progress reporting, etc.,
  • Insure the efficient operation of the SSG Fox SPGP Responsibility for directing a variety of support functions such as communications, property management, facilities and equipment maintenance.
  • Help develop and carry out enrichment activities for the SSG Fox SPGP.
  • Assist the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in coordination of VA sponsored activities
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues presented to the facility residents, navigate them to the appropriate resource.
  • Provide transportation assistance to Veterans to medical appointments, grocery trips and other vital services.
  • Work with other community partners and Veteran services organizations in support of the Veteran community.
  • Identify issues with the facility and report them to the appropriate Harbor Care resources.
  • Coordinate with contractors performing work at the facility to ensure work order completion as needed.
  • Provide professional and compassionate, onsite presence.
  • Support a healthy and supportive community culture.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent computer skills including Excel, Word and Internet use.
  • Detail oriented with organizational skills. Plans and prioritizes to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills; communicates clearly and effectively.
  • Anticipates and responds to the needs of others; assist others in a courteous, quick manner; treats others with care and respect maintaining privacy, confidentiality and dignity.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance (Dress Code Policy).
  • Appropriate footwear for all seasons (Dress Code Policy). Conduct oneself in a manner that promotes safety.

The staff will provide excellent customer service to all Veterans, clients, residents, patients and staff.
