Role:
The Patient Access & Financial Counselor provides direct services to patients of the Community Health Center by providing scheduling access and financial counseling.
Responsibilities:
• Greets patients upon arrival at health center and promptly and courteously answers incoming phone calls.
• Accurately and efficiently registers new patient to include data entering patient demographic information, managing POS insurance verification process and collecting payments.
• Ensures patient visit is reimbursable.
• Manages patient appointment process.
• Interviews all new patients regarding their insurance eligibility and, as appropriate, reviews patient eligibility.
• Assist patients in renewing their insurance with Commonwealth Care products.
• Participates in Mass Health Training Forum meetings outside Harbor Health (HHSI) by representing and advocating for HHSI on Financial Counselor issues as directed by supervisor.
• Verifies and/or assists the Senior Patient Access Representative or Manager in verifying the Self Pay list for eligibility on a monthly basis and reconciles any discrepancies.
Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 Year of experience in a professional office environment in an ambulatory healthcare setting preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Excellent customer service, organizational, problem solving and priority setting skills
• Computer literate: proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel, proficient use of Internet
• Basic Math and reading comprehension skills
• Ability to effectively and efficiently perform all assigned tasks in fast-paced environment
• May substitute 1 year of experience for bilingual capacity (English/Target Language)
• Third party billing experience preferred
• Bilingual skills in the English and Vietnamese, Spanish or Portuguese preferred
• Knowledge of current federal and state health insurance regulations/processes preferred
