Technical Director
SUMMARY
This is a senior position reporting to the General Manager of Organics. The individual will be a member of the General Manager’s senior management team. The Technical Director for Organize direct and coordinates R&D and quality assurance activities for Organics products and services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Research & Development
Responsible for planning, prioritizing, and formulating all aspects of research and development department, such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment.
Evaluate new technologies to determine whether appropriate to the company and if so institute plans to incorporate into operations
Responsible for directing the development of new products/process which may be extensions of existing products/processes or are new to the industry or to the company responsible for directing plans and studies to solve customer and production related problems.
Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project
Chair regular R&D meetings and prepare monthly progress reports for management and participate in periodic R&D meetings with Venus and their technical staff.
Pilot Plant
Direct all activities of the Pilot Plants ensuring the safe and appropriate use of the facilities
Analytical Dept
Oversea the activities of the Analytical Dept (Not QA)
Quality Assurance
Responsible for directing the operation of the Quality Assurance Department.
Product Development
Manages the transition of developmental products from the laboratory to production, working in concert with the manufacturing dept. Prepare SOPs for new products and process changes. Coordinate the technical aspects when troubleshooting production problems.
Customer Interaction
Take the lead when answering customer complaints related to product quality or performance. Institute the subsequent technical activity to solve the problem. Provides technical sales support in the field where a strong technical presence is required. Up to 10% domestic travel envisaged.
Regulatory Affairs
Work closely with the Regulatory Affairs Dept providing all technical data as required.
Intellectual Property
Participates in the management of certain aspects of Intellectual Property on behalf of the company.
Management of Resources and Budgets
Approves and submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds from department budget.
Responsible for preparing yearly budgets for the R&D and Q.A. departments and ensuring that Departments closely adhere to budgets.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages subordinate managers, who supervise an estimated total of 15 employees in the R&D and Q.A. Departments including QA and R&D Managers. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Travel
This position will likely require up to 10% domestic travel, for the purposes of visiting customer sites and offices, presenting products and services, and resolving customer technical and commercial issues.
Education and/or Experience
A minimum of a B.S. degree in Natural Sciences, plus ten plus years related industrial experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
