Harding Loevner is seeking an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategist to join its Product Management team in a newly created role. The Strategist will serve as an ESG subject matter expert, delivering thought leadership in ESG and sustainable investing through three key proficiencies:
• Client perspective: the ability to approach ESG from a client (asset-owner) perspective, inclusive of both US and International Institutional and High Net Worth clients;
• Communication skills: the ability to clearly articulate—and contribute to—Harding Loevner’s ESG content, both in a verbal and written capacity; and
• Broad ESG knowledge: demonstrate a broad and deep understanding (and network to continue to stay informed) of the global ESG landscape to aid in the above, as well as to inform the firm’s ESG roadmap, in general.
Based on feedback from client engagements, knowledge of the firm’s current ESG solutions, and an understanding of the ESG regulatory landscape, the Strategist will assume a leadership role in coordinating and executing projects across a wide array of business teams, integrating existing and introducing new ESG capabilities within the broader set of Harding Loevner’s ESG offerings. The Strategist will also assist in the reporting and compliance efforts related to disclosure frameworks and codes, regulatory and voluntary.
Harding Loevner has long-incorporated ESG risks as an integral facet of its investment process and has a long track record of partnering with its clients to build customized portfolios to meet their investment goals. This role represents an opportunity for a self-starter, comfortable operating in an unstructured environment, to expand upon the firm’s leadership in the ever-growing responsible investing space. The ESG Strategist will help to develop and present the narrative on how our approach to ESG allows us to uniquely serve clients and provide world-class client service to our customers.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in ESG or sustainability-directed roles, serving wealth or asset management
• Deep knowledge of local and global ESG policy landscapes and market trends, (e.g. TCFD, CDP, SFDR, Paris Alignment, UN PRI, UK Stewardship Code)
• Familiarity with the innerworkings of equity investment products
• Degree in a finance-related or a sustainability-related field
• CFA ESG certification or a similar certification
• Working knowledge of ESG-related reporting requirements is preferred
• CFA charterholder or a willingness to pursue the designation preferred
