What You'll Be Doing
Job Scope:
A Rotating Equipment Specialist is expected to provide safe, cost effective and timely engineered solutions for support of production, maintenance, and all other operating departments within the refinery.Will also provide technical Rotating Equipment support to the refinery; define/manage/install maintenance projects, interface with capital group as required; and perform engineering studies, advise, and make recommendations for all departments on refinery rotating equipment
Primary responsibilities may include:
- Defines scope, estimate costs, time spans, and advisability of engineering projects, capital authorizations, repairs, replacements, etc., and makes appropriate recommendations
- Perform detailed engineering designs and supervision of drafting efforts
- Complete requisitions that are necessary for materials and equipment
- Directs the erection and/or installation of equipment and facilities related to rotating equipment
- Contacts, interviews, and requests bids from vendors, engineering consultants, contractors, and other outside organizations as needed
- Supervises contractor and/or Refinery personnel to complete work according to engineering specifications in a timely manner
- Analyzes and makes recommendations on maintenance of equipment and spare parts storage requirements
- Develops and updates Refinery Rotating Equipment Standards
- Leads/participates Root Cause Failure Analysis investigations
- Communicates progress and information to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Regularly communicate with supervisor work progress, concerns and questions
- Provides training for refinery personnel on an as-needed basis
- Provides leadership and positive reinforcement of company goals and values
- Performs other duties assigned
- All work performed safely and efficiently
- Delivers maintenance work on schedule and communicates any deficiencies
- Work schedules are met on time without the need for rework
- Production maximized with outages minimized
- Improve availability, reliability and performance of rotating equipment
- Manage AFE projects cost and quality control and remain on schedule
- Adherence to all company policies and procedures.
Ideal Background
Education: A Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is preferred.
Experience: This position required a minimum of 10 years working with rotating equipment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of rotating equipment - specifically dealing with pump curves & head pressures.
- Knowledge and application of company business standards and good practices.
- A comprehensive understanding of the function of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.
- Ability to manage client relationships in complex situations.
- Ability to relate easily to others in the business community such as customers, suppliers, contractors, government, professional and trade associations.
- Ability to handle stress with poise.
- Understanding of existing and potential customer needs and preferences.
- Ability to clearly communicate expectations and requirements to team members.
- Ability to set priorities.
- Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work outdoors in hot or cold climates.
- Ability to perform duties while wearing personal protective equipment such as fire-retardant jumpsuit, safety glasses, ear plugs and hard hat
