POSITION SUMMARY: An employee in this position within Transportation performs a variety of transportation scheduling, office support, and communications work in dispatching vehicles for the Harnett County Transportation Program. This includes: working with telephone and two-way radios; dispatching transportation vehicles and services; taking requests for service from citizens; confirming and canceling trips as needed; coordinating with various agencies and medical services in providing transportation for users of their services; and operating specializes transportation software. Work also includes: preparing and completing a variety of reports including travel logs, incident reports on needs and health status of participants, mileage and other pertinent data; maintaining a variety of spreadsheets, records, reports, and documents; and generating correspondence. Annual SalaryMinimum: $35,628.00Job Rate: $41,417.00
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Operates two-way radio communications systems and uses telephones dispatching transportation services. Uses a multi-line telephone; answers telephone and answers pubic inquiries concerning the Transportation Program. Takes requests for service; schedules and confirms trips and cancellations; and uses scheduling software to honor request for service. Maintains status and position of drivers using AVL.Communicates with transportation drivers; dispatches drivers to specific locations, maintains status and position of drivers, notifies of changes, reports problems; and assists in communicating in emergency or non-routine situations. Makes scheduling decisions in emergency and non-routine situations.Completes a variety of reports including mileage logs, trips taken, cancellations, and other pertinent information; prepares periodic summary reports.Operates a computer and uses specialized transportation software and spreadsheet software to generate reports; prepares correspondence; and utilizes standardized technology for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. to accomplish work required. May serve as Secretary for the Transportation Advisory Board; sends evites and reminders.May use County vehicle or substitute for a driver as needed.Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle as needed.Is available 24/7 to handle scheduling changes. Performs other related duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works primary indoors in an office type of environment. The position requires working after hours to meet emergency or non-routine situations. When substituting as a driver, the employee works outdoors and is subject to the same hazards as other drivers.
