Position Overview:
The Harris County Public Health (HCPH) Intern assists with Event Planning (external conferences) activities and projects. The position requires interaction with department staff, and must be able to work independently, demonstrate initiative, critical thinking skills, and maintain effective working relationships with administrative and all level of employees and external vendors.
This position reports to the Office of Communication, Education, and Engagement (OCEE) Event Planner.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supports the Event Planner with event schedules, including but not limited to:
- Securing speakers managing event content and program details to create a comprehensive event experience.
- The development of event-related websites to ensure functionality, informativeness, and user-friendliness.
- The execution of catering and decor selections, coordinating with vendors to ensure the desired outcomes.
- Contribute to the wrap-up functions under the Event Planner
- Assist in on-boarding speakers, managing their needs, and ensuring a positive speaker experience at HCPH events.
- Help complete the speaker off-boarding process, including collecting feedback, facilitating speaker payments, and ensuring a smooth departure for speakers.
- Assist with event logistics, including transportation, equipment, and materials, and coordinates with staff or volunteers to ensure smooth event operation.
- Support the facilitation of marketing strategies, promotional materials, and event promotion as needed.
- Act as a secondary point of contact for event stakeholders, facilitating communication between vendors, staff, speakers, and attendees.
- Supports event setup, execution, and breakdown, addressing issues or challenges that arise, ensuring a smooth event flow and related duties as assigned

- Must be currently enrolled as a student in a college or university working towards an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Hospitality, Business or other related field

- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time
