Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Communicable and Emerging Diseases Senior Manager, the Intake & Case Investigation Manager will oversee the operations of incoming reports, laboratory results, and assign case investigations for communicable and emerging diseases teams. The focus of intake records and case assignments will be for all reportable conditions according to Texas state statutes.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the operations of the Intake and Case Investigation teams, which includes overseeing medical/lab requests, processing of lab results, and investigation of reported diseases.
  • Ensure new employee training, performance management, and compliance with internal policies, procedures, and protocols are implemented as well as external guidelines, laws, and regulations as appropriate.
  • Oversee with development, documentation, and implementation of process improvements to increase the efficiency and productivity of the team. Identify gaps, recommend process changes, and implement improvements under the direction of the Senior Manager.
  • Contributes to department wide reporting and initiatives pertaining to communicable and emerging diseases, including cases reported and investigated.
  • Represents OESED and HCPH at departmental, regional, state, or national meetings or committees related to communicable and emerging diseases. In the absence of the Communicable and Emerging Diseases Senior Manager, attends meetings and responds to inquiries on their behalf.

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Health or Administration with coursework in Management and Organizational Behavior; Communications or other related field
Experience:
  • At least three (3) years of supervisory experience, with at least 1 year of supervisory experience in a public health setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficient with statistical analysis software (SPSS, STATA, SAS, R, or Epi Info)
  • Proficient with epidemiological database software (e.g. Maven)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Ability to write reports and technical papers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
  • Ability to work well with public and staff members

Education:
  • Master's degree in public health or other related field of science. 
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time | grant-funded position.
  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Other days and hours as required.

Work Environment:
  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands:
  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
