What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN Manager position at Harris County?
Under the direction of the Program Director, the RN Manager will provide nursing, clinical case management, and other services within the scope of practice to all refugee patients presenting at the Harris County Public Health (HCPH) Community Health and Wellness (CH&W) Refugee Medical Screening Program (RMS).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages clinical staff including RNs, LVNs, Medical assistants
- Coordinates staff assignments, time, and attendance
- Assists with control of patient flow through the facility during clinic visits
- Manages the Nurse Navigator team and serves as a liaison for newly arrived refugees between the Voluntary Agencies (VOLAGs), HCPH RMS, social services, and other healthcare providers
- Gives age-appropriate immunizations, stays up to date with all CDC vaccine schedule changes, and assists the nursing team with providing CDC-recommended vaccinations at all times
- Provides patient individualized health education /counseling.
- May be called upon to present group health education sessions when indicated
- Works closely with the Nurse Navigators to ensure that Notifiable Conditions are reported to the appropriate public health agency such as the City of Houston and HCPH TB or Epidemiology Programs
- Work to ensure i693 Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination records Form (when applicable) are reviewed and signed by the CH&W Medical Director
- Other duties as assigned, including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event

- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited University of College
- Three (3) years of nursing experience in public health, community healthcare, and or medical office setting.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Registered Nurse
- CPR Certification
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Proficient with Human Resources Information Systems (PeopleSoft)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information
- Ability to work well with the public and staff members

Physical Demands:
Persons in these positions frequently lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs. They also occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position.
Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5 pm.
Others days and hours as necessary.
