Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief of Operations, the Director of Facilities is responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the campus and is a key member of the Operations Leadership Team.
Position Description
Represents HGSE on Harvard University (HU) Facility Working Groups. Oversees proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems, Fire Alarm, Fire Protection (Life Safety) systems, service contracts. Plans and oversees systems upgrades as needed. Manages $3.3M annual operating budget. Leads facility team of 20 HU and contract staff. Scopes and directs additional teams of trade contractors to support preventative and corrective maintenance needs. Serves as project manager on all Facility (MEP, life safety, grounds, and building envelope) small projects (<=$100K); develops scope and manages project schedules and budgets. Prepares and executes contracts and ensures compliance with University procedures. Oversees and assists in maintaining and ensuring proper operation of all fire alarm, sprinkler, generator and life safety systems; planning and overseeing systems upgrades. Assists in planning and scheduling fire / evacuation drills and preventative testing of all systems. Maintains campus renewal database. Works with the Chief of Operations to develop the multiyear capital plan by developing a prioritized list of renewal, life safety, and energy conservation opportunities. Provides support for campus construction and planning by providing input on the MEP and life safety scope of work, overseeing the review of all MEP and life safety submittals, and attending project meetings. Reviews all drawings to ensure proper equipment and layout. Works closely with Harvard Engineering and Utilities overseeing all utilities on campus, including steam, chilled water, domestic water, sewer, storm, electrical distribution, fire protection and fire alarm. Support 24 hour services and activities, responding, as appropriate. Works closely with the Chief of Operations to develop energy savings opportunities and developing energy management strategy; responsible for daily management of all building systems to maintain that strategy. Assists with campus behavioral change through the Green Team programs. Assists with LBC Core compliance process on construction projects and implementing/overseeing energy savings projects. Manages the security team and contract. Manages the mailroom and contract. Member of the HGSE local emergency management Team. Works collaboratively across the School and University on various projects and working groups as needed.
This position is designated as critical and essential personnel expected to work during an emergency.
Basic Qualifications
Basic requirements: B.A. in Engineering or Facilities Management; min. 7 yrs.' facilities management experience; Previous supervisory experience required. Must be able to work nights/weekends/off-hours as needed.

Additional Qualifications and Skills
Knowledge of central utility plants is preferred; experience as MEP and construction project manager is preferred; knowledge of work order systems preferred; demonstrated experience and ability making independent decisions and take initiative; excellent organizational skills; demonstrated written/verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of constituencies; excellent problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to follow-through on multiple projects and meet deadlines; strong interpersonal, customer service skills; proficiency with a variety of computer applications including Excel, Word, Internet explorer, Outlook, and administrative database application tools.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform daily physical activity, including walking to and from various buildings, climbing multiple sets of stairs and walking from room to room on each floor to inspect the physical condition of the building required.
