What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Scholar in Applied Physics position at Harvard University?
Details
Title Postdoctoral Scholar in Applied Physics
School Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
Department/Area Applied Physics
Position Description
Quantum cascade laser pumped molecular lasers (QPMLs) are new sources of THz radiation being developed in the Capasso Group (https://capasso.seas.harvard.edu/) to fill the THz gap (Science 366, 6467 (2019); APL Photonics, 7, 016107 (2022); Appl. Phys Lett. 120, 08110(2022)) which can cover a broad frequency range from a few hundred GHz to several THz, depending on the gas used for the gain medium. A postdoctoral scholar is sought to investigate various paths to optimize the current performance of QPMLs. The candidate will join a team that includes graduate students, researchers, and external collaborators. The candidate will develop/optimize the performance of QPMLs with different gases as well as new laser THz cavities and characterize them at THz frequencies. The postdoc will modify and use existing numerical simulations of the molecular dynamics in gas lasers to characterize and optimize QPMLs, in close relationship with external collaborators. SEAS is dedicated to building a diverse and welcoming community and we encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups.
Basic Qualifications
PhD in applied physics, physics, optics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
Additional Qualifications
Proficiency in lasers, layout and alignment of laboratory optics, and data acquisition and analysis using LabView, Python or MATLAB . Research experience in laser physics at THz and/or infrared wavelengths and with electromagnetic simulation ( FDTD , RCWA , FEM ) is desirable. Previous experience in nanophotonics, clean room fabrication, and with high vacuum equipment would be beneficial but is not strictly required.
Special Instructions
Please submit a current CV with publications listed as well as a minimum of two reference letters.
