Data science is not necessarily an IT skillset. It can be, but there are also data science roles that focus primarily on answering business questions using data science techniques. My team of data scientists is embedded within the business and not IT. There are many teams like mine at GM and at other firms.
I am looking for someone with sharp technical skills, (query from sql, write python scripts for data manipulation, data visualization using dashboard software, predictive modeling, statistical analysis, Alteryx) while at the same time having strong business acumen. They need to be able to effectively communicate their findings at the SLT level and have strong presentation skills. This is a very visible position.
I am not looking for a data engineer, or someone to develop data pipelines. I need someone who can use data science techniques to work with data to inform business decisions and effectively tell a story using data.

Job Description
- Worker to be paid salary, not eligible for overtime.
- Please note that the worker will be able to submit 40 hours a week regardless of the hours worked. (Holiday/Red Days etc.).
- Must have 4 years of actual experience, not looking for new graduates
- Must be Michigan local to go onsite for collaboration
- 4 years of experience using data to solve problems, answer questions, and create visualizations
- 4 years of experience in data quality analysis and data architecture
- 4 years of professional development experience
- 4 years of experience in Big Data technologies in Hadoop/Hive/Spark platform using Python/Scala
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Physics, Computer Science or other STEM fields preferred but will take bachelor’s degree.
- Work as an integral member within the Cadillac Strategic Innovations and Analytics team to provide key data science components to support the development of retail strategy.
- Support Strategic Innovations and Analytics Manager by developing analytical solutions to improve business results.
- Pursues problem identification and impact across large vehicle populations, leveraging data mining, predictive modeling, simulation and visualization techniques to further enhance insight and internal performance optimization
- Perform hands-on analysis, search pattern design, mining automation development and data reduction execution
- Mentors others to develop analytical skill sets throughout the organization
- Maintain the latest knowledge in software and hardware products or services, trends, and identify best solutions to meet business requirements
- Establish strong working relationship with peer teams to review requirements/problem areas and establish the appropriate statistical techniques to apply on available data
- Drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources
- Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate those to peer teams
- Analytics that support Complex Event Processing and Real-Time Event Processing in the context of Big Data
- Acts as the subject matter expert for Data Analytics as it pertains both Predictive and Prescriptive analysis and ensure alignment with industry best practices
