Hattie Larlham is looking for an Adaptive Equipment Specialist who wants to be part of a mission based on Comfort, Joy, and Achievement of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Mantua, Ohio. The primary duties of the Adaptive Equipment Specialist include working closely with the Therapy staff and medically fragile persons served to make necessary adjustments and repairs to splints, casts, orthotics, adaptive devices, and wheelchairs, and creating adaptive equipment (e.g. body positioners). The Adaptive Equipment Specialist is responsible to maintain the Therapy Workshop to ensure it is organized, clean, safe, secure, and stocked at all times to meet the day-to-day needs of the persons served.

Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Minimum of 6-months orthotics experience adjusting and repairing splints, casts, orthotics, adaptive devices, and wheelchairs and knowledge of orthotic equipment and adapted seating systems, preferred.
- Minimum of 6-months experience in working with persons who are medically fragile and present with developmental disabilities, preferred.
- Previous work experience in repair of equipment, use of hand tools (e.g. reupholstering, automotive, etc.) required.
- A Valid Ohio Driver’s License is required to maintain employment.
- American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required within first 30 days in role.
- American Heart Association HeartSaver First Aid certification required within first 30 days in role.
- Experience in use of Microsoft Office/Offiice365 required.
- Ability to travel within the state of Ohio required.
Duties:
- Provides technical assistance and support by overseeing all adapted equipment needs of individuals in various therapy disciplines.
- Fabricates and repairs of selected adapted equipment under the supervision of a physical therapist and/or occupational therapist.
- Assists in repairs and maintenance of adapted equipment and seating systems.
- Organizes and labels equipment, as well as organizes workshop, therapy office, and therapy gym as needed.
- Establishes routine maintenance programs including a record of repairs and adjustments to equipment and maintains inventory of therapy supplies, including routine cleaning and stocking of supplies.
- Adjusts and/or repairs splints, casts, or orthotics, and assists in fabrication of positioning equipment under a therapist’s direction.
- Complete clerical duties as needed (e.g. filing, purging charts).
- Transport individuals to and from therapy as needed and assist in lifting and positioning of individuals in the therapy department.
