Job Summary:
The Quality Assurance Assistant has the primary responsibility to support the quality processes at the manufacturing and tank yard operations. This position will assist the Quality department to assure that Hausbeck products comply with our quality systems standards, as well as FDA, customer, and other regulatory requirements. As a quality assurance professional, this position is involved in all aspects of quality and safety including but not limited to audits, HACCP program evaluation, GMP training, sanitation evaluation, pest control, purchasing supplies, working with operations personnel on quality and safety issues, inspecting returned and incoming products, customer complaints, implementing policies and procedures and evaluating new equipment installation or repair.
Pay – $22/hour - $26/hour based on years of experience.
Benefits – Medical, dental and vision; STD, LTD and Life company paid; 401k with company match. Employee pays only 15% of medical cost at $16.47/week for Single and $49.41/week for Family coverage (2024 Rates). Company contributes HSA dollars annually of $1,000 for a Single and $2,000 for a Family.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Aid in the implementation of effective process control systems to support the development, validation, and support of ongoing manufacturing processes.
- Assist with conducting GMP and sanitation audits of operations and warehouse areas.
- Work with operations personnel and lab technicians on quality and safety issues.
- Assist with evaluating damaged products, problem solving, and reports on recommended process improvement changes.
- Assist with daily review of acidified food records (process and quality control records).
- Assist with the finished product positive release program.
- Assist with verification of ingredient compliance and maintenance of receiving records.
- Assist with tank yard quality processes to include maintaining records of brine ingredients, monitoring the fermentation process to ensure procedures are being followed correctly, ensuring salting tank procedures are carried out for winter storage, and conducting laboratory testing.
- Assist with resolution of customer complaints as necessary.
- Assist lab technicians during heavy workload periods.
- Administer compliance programs for sanitation practices to include pre-op and environmental microbiological testing.
- Responsible for the management of the Environmental Monitoring Program at the Hess plant including the creation, culture, and shipment of environmental swab plates.
- Documentation and reporting of culture results and the implementation of effective corrective actions when required.

Position Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:
- BS Degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science or other related degree required. Education may be substituted for years of experience.
- 3-5 years related experience required preferably in the food industry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Complete understanding of Food Safety Guidelines/Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safe practices and procedures.
- Complete understanding of HACCP Plans.
- Understanding of government regulations (FDA, USDA).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage tasks.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to read measurements.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- Provide necessary papers allowing holder to work legally in the United States.
