Job Description
Nurse Practitioner
Reviews complete health history with patients; including obstetric, gynecologic contraceptive, medical, surgical, sexual, family health, and psychosocial; and records findings both accurately and succinctly.
Performs physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproduction system, including breast examination, pelvic examination, cancer screening tests, diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other types of more specialized procedures as may be indicated by medical policy.
Provides patients with education concerning health issues, family planning, nutrition, sexual counseling, resisting coercion, family involvement (with minors), specific procedures, medications and birth control methods including abstinence, and other topics requested by the patient.
Performs, orders and interprets diagnostic studies as indicated and permitted by HHC medical protocols.
Recognizes and treats minor deviations from the normal, using prescribed protocols and consulting with the Medical Director as needed.
Recognizes ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing care to women throughout the life cycle.
Familiar with appropriate reference materials and funding sources at work site to ensure proper patient care.
Recognizes common non-gynecological medical problems and other deviations from normal and provides management or referrals as appropriate utilizing community resource manual.
Is a willing and active team player with the clinic’s entire staff. Must provide each patient with excellent customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be licensed or certified for advanced nurse practice in Texas.
Must have Nurse Practitioners training and at least 2 years of experience in reproductive health care.
NCC certification or certification by another recognized body is required.
Must have good documentation and communication skills. Must support the mission and goal of HHC.
Classification: Exempt
Hours: Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Friday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
